25-26 Transfers

I am gun shy taking guys like him given how badly we whiffed on the transfers we took from low major teams.

In fairness, you make a valid point.
I think we need to see if this coaching staff does a better job of talent evaluation than the previous staff.
He does have the measurables and stata but the key will be getting him to fit into the scheme and direction of the team.
That was the biggest failure this season. The pieces didn't fit the scheme of the team.

I actually think Mister Dean would be a good fit for Coach Lucas.
Coach Lucas had one of the tallest rosters in the nation at Duke, which helped them defensively, which is the focus of Coach Lucas.
Miami struggled on the defensive end this season, which will be fixed by Coach Lucas.
Mister Dean has the size at 6'6, length and athleticism to play good defense at a high major level.
If he can improve his jump shot, which he has good form but he needs to shot at 1K jump shots per day outside of 15 feet all summer to improve his jump shot.
Mister Dean will have 3 years of eligibility left which would give him time to develop under Coach Jai Lucas.
I would expect Miami to have at least 10 open scholarships available so using 1 for Mister Dean would not be bad given how he fits the direction of the team.
Depending on who stays, I fully expect Coach Jai Lucas to add 5 grad transfer seniors for sure with the other 5 scholarships being determined by who becomes available in the portal.
With that being said, if given the opportunity, Mister Dean is a good fit for Miami under Coach Jai Lucas.

Jacari White has impressive size (6'3) at the PG spot. Honestly, he dribbles a bit too much at times but he does make tough shots that his over dribbling puts him in.
Let's not take it for granted, making 43% from the field and 39% from 3 is impressive. Especially the Butler game, where he made 7/9 from 3 with some coming off of catch and shot situations.
The question now becomes is the breakout year sustainable and can be play defense at the high major level that Coach Jai Lucas is looking for in Coral Gables.
He has one year left so there is no long term commitment but as we learned from this season, you cannot miss on multiple transfers and expect to win.
You have to properly identify the player who fits the style and scheme you want to play.
You cannot just grab a bunch of guys out of the portal and expect to win.

Other teams are doing fine infusing their rosters with guys from the mid major level. My issue with this guy is while he has good size and looks decently athletic if you just watch him dunk, he’s not super laterally quick and he can’t shoot like, at all.

Edit: After watching a full game and a half, this guy isn’t a guard, he’s a 3/small 4, he looks every bit of 6’6 with a plus wingspan. Super bouncy and really moves at a full sprint. Getting a little bit of Terance Mann vibes. I don’t like non-shooters at any spot, but I do think the tools are there for him to be a decent shooter, the shot isn’t completely broken it just doesn’t go in, and if you play him more as a 4 than as a 2 you could make it work. And with his size he could be a really good defender for us.
The bolded part.

Key words to look for when discussing transfers: Defense, Shooting, Length and Athleticism.

The player should check 3 of the 4 boxes.

What should we call him if we're nasty?

I believe Mister Dean will be a portal target.
For depth? I live in the upstate and I've watched him play a few times. He's a terrible shooter. His 3pt and free throw shooting is just.. bad. There's no expectation among fans that he's going to make it. If he's a guy at the end of the bench that's fine. But if we're planning to rely on him for meaningful minutes, we're screwed.

We basically have to recruit an entire roster in the next 6 weeks. He’s good enough to have a role here

I highly doubt a guy that was the conference freshman of the year and averaged 16ppg is going anywhere for an end of the bench spot. I’d have to imagine wherever he winds up it’s for a top 7 rotation spot.

The lack of shooting really, REALLY concerns me. But I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that he’s the best dunker in the country next season, he had some jump off the couch dunks in the couple games I watched. So, that would be fun at least. To me he has to be able to play the 4, put him on the low post or the elbow and let him operate, stick him in the dunker in lineups with a stretch big, use him as a screener in PnR it could work imo. He’s every bit as big as Miller was and I never felt his size was a detriment, and while Dean doesn’t look as crafty around the rim or as connective as a passer, he’s a different level of athlete than Miller, especially in terms of being a true lob threat.

If we were to bring him in and trot him out at the 3 with two bigs, I’d vomit.
