21 players from South Florida were drafted this weekend

Interested to know how many of those guys weren't offered by the Big 3.

A lot of these guys passed through JUCOs. Miami needs to do a better job there. It's one thing to miss Lavonte David or Stanley Jean-Baptiste out of high school. But missing them out of JUCO is another story.

A kid who I think went JUCO that I REALLY REALLY hope we keep an eye on is Frank Newman. I think after two years of JUCO he will be a beast at LB.

JMO but based on the circumstances at the time of their recruitment, looks like a few flat out misses and quite a few "off-field caveats" that kept most of these guys from signing in-state. To me, this speaks to the depth of athletic talent in South Florida but also the flat-out crap shoot of academics, admissions, and non-football factors that go with the territory down here.

My opinion is, cast a wide net in South Florida - you never know who's going to be a star at Buffalo...

And agree 100% on the JUCO comments. Get on 'em, STAY on 'em.

Several of those players went to St Thomas so I am not sure where they are originally from but a lot of their players aren't from south florida. Also I think we need to do a better job at recruiting at some of the lesser known schools. You would think that only 9 or 10 high schools are in all of the tri-county area by reading recruiting news. By the sheer number of college football players that come out of south florida you are going to have some misses. If we can't learn to develop talent it doesn't matter who we recruit.

The problem with a lot of the JUCO talent is that they struggle to be eligible here. Miami isn't going to skate kids into the University who don't qualify, and honestly they shouldn't.

For the bare minimum Miami lets in you have to be borderline learning disabled to not be able to qualify.

Other big time schools don't care, Miami does. JUCO is going to always be hard pressed for UM now, especially since the program doesn't have the resources to knock kids grades up like other schools do.
