This kid is 5 hours away from campus yet the current coaching staff is not mentioned.
Hopefully, the next staff will be.

St. John's doesn't appear to be recruiting any high schoolers, either. Landscape is changing before our eyes, gents. Six total freshman players across the ten top teams.

I'll clarify even further, and put this into proper perspective:
2023-2024
  • Two years ago, Rick took the job
  • Rick gutted the entire squad - 11/12 players had to seek shelter.
  • Rick did not recruit 11 freshman to replace them (2023-2024)
  • Rick signed two (2) freshman): Simeon Wilcher (starter), Brady Dunlap (injured)
  • Rick also hit the portal - nine (9) players came in via the portal



2024-2025
  • Rick lost eight players
  • Rick hit the portal for four college players
  • Rick signed two pros from Europe (Lefty and Ruben)
  • Rick signed two (2) freshman - Jaiden Glover (injured) and Khaman Maker (too skinny, rides pine)


2025-2026

  • Rick is not recruiting a single freshman, not even a five star
  • Doing the math, Rick, entering year three, has recruited a whopping four (4) freshman since he took over at St. John's, giving you four players in three years - fewer than two per cycle
  • Thanks for making my point clearer.

Fact is Rick is not recruiting freshman to fill the void left by seniors. He is hitting the portal to address those needs. This was not possible a few years ago, hence the novelty of it, hence my post, and hence the success of the coaches using this model.

If you think Rick, or any coach that is (and wants to continue) winning will continue to recruit freshman to the extent they were in years past, you're going to be wrong about that.


* This is the third consecutive interview where he left RJ out of the convo. He used to include him, but stop referring to him needing to be replaced. I believe the Repole comment was directed at him and Zuby and other studs from the portal.

Always love on this side. I love talking hoops, and appreciate the dialogue. Thanks for pushing the narrative.
