This is why I give Mario a hard time on his hiring process. He puts the cart before the horse. He sometimes hires or keeps assistants that has no experience in a scheme or teaching it. You have JT in a scheme he doesn’t align with. I believe in hiring your staff that meld schematically. On the same page with what they’re teaching.
I mean, under normalized schemes for a typical DC, JT would probably be fine. but this 3-4 over look as a base, is strange to teach.
How do you teach a SDE 4tech to keep contain? Especially when you have a off the line TE on your side, while being in a NT stance? Literally no matter the coaching, your effed. Its as if Guidry has no semblance of the front 7 because he only played SAF and even the back end is super weird and communication is off.
Defense is pretty simple, have gap integrity (and one guy always takes on two bodies) in the front 7, and in the back end, make it simple, so communication is quick and alignment is fast and complete. Due to the crazy amount of pre and post snaps motions and shifts.
Know where the weakness in your defense lies (i.e., if you leave the short side flats open, you probably have pressure coming from the weakside and have a front side DE roaming on the LOS because you expect the QB to roll that way due to pressure).
This game isn't effin hard. Beat the guy in front of you and play fundamental football thats been there since the 40s.
