2023 QB Max Lawrence (Commits - PWO)

Ahhh. So a high school for all the kids who live in Hialeah warehouses...

When I grew up in the area we only had Hialeah, Miami Springs, HML was recently opened, and American had just started. Crazy to know they've added three more: Hialeah Gardens, Goleman, and this one Westland one. Plus you also have a few private schools as well. I loved growing up in Hialeah and miss some things but I can't even imagine how messed up the traffic must be these days.

Miami Springs, Freddie Miles in the House...

Miles and Oscar Hernandez (Hialeah High and then Cincy in college) were in the same Optimist backfield. Their QB was Dale Dorminey (Hialeah) who went on to sign w/ UiF. He was going to be their starter as a RSR till he had a season and career ending knee injury the week before they opened against us. That was the fall when the gator lost their top 4 QB's and Kerwin Bell became the starter by default, iirc.

I'm sure there were a ton more future D1 players on that Optimist team. @MedleyCane can add much more info on this.

It ain't that bad. I hit up DiPiazza every three weeks or so and it's better than Westchester.

I've looked at the stats on MaxPreps for our walk-on QB's.
I know anything about the relative strength of their respective competition or anything; I just have the numbers.

Max Lawrence, 2022, Westland Hialeah
8 games, 112 completions on 190 attempts (59%), 1403 pass yds (175 per game), 15 TD/7 Int, 92.9 QB Rating

Jayden George, 2019, Indianapolis (IN) Warren Central
14 g, 198/312 (63%), 3005 yards (215/g), 41 TD/5 Int, 128.0

Aris Angelo, 2021, Miami LaSalle
8 g, 85/157 (54%), 1296 (17th in Class 4A, 6th in Dist.) (162/g), 25/5, 107.9

Bryson Martin - who I believe is no longer on the team (2021)
12 g, 104/172 (60%), 1632 (136/g), 11/3, 106.1

I believe we have another walk on QB this season who’s twin brother is also walking on. He may be a QB slash athlete. Believe they were from somewhere in the Midwest.
