2022 Class- Top Targets & Offers: Defense

Defensive top target board starting to take more shape heading into the summer and potential commitment times.

Couple guys moving up and some moving down - Alton Tarber moving down slightly, the Henderson brothers moving up. Spells and Lathan moving down

Would love to land Graves, Durant, Tolan, and Nick Cull this month

Why is Target moving down? We need his style of war daddy to cement the DL. Odd that is the case, if true.

Well that’s a shame. Hopefully he picks it up this season and shows a change. Because he’s a great talent that shouldn’t be limited by whether or not he plays hard every play.

8/2 - Updated - Since last update - Trob and DVD are studs!

Landed Graves & ***ans, and we seem to lead for Jaheim Singletary & Marquis Williams. Super Impressive. If we land Singletary, Williams and potentially Kamari Wilson, it would be be the best DB class maybe ever at UM on paper.

Would be huge to land both Stewart and Kelly at DE. Seems like we lead for both, but they will be battles. Would love to see Kelly jump on board soon.

New addition in Hastings to the board at DT, but was big losing both Durant and Lyons in July.

LB - NEED to land Wesley. Board here and at Striker seems to have expanded with Alfonzo Allen, Jacoby Mathers, and Darius Thomas.

We dont need Wesley unless a ton of our current LBs enter the portal. Personally, i'd rather use that schollie for some of our true needs like DT, DE, and safety.

We only have 1 OLB and we've already addressed this by bringing in Johnson, Troutman, and Keontra Smith. Plus Medlock. Now you want us to divert more precious schollies to this one starting spot?

We have like 85230580 OLBs and MLBs on our roster, while our DT, safety and DE units are thin, some dangerously so, for 2022.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had good lb play, and in manny’s attacking, upfield dl scheme, if you don’t have capable LBs, you get exposed. Listing names is meaningless. Manny needs to recruit kids who can actually play OLB.

Added Wes B as a commit, removed Medlock, Fegans, and the Striker Position

Really think Mario goes after some top dogs.

Kelly should be our next commit this weekend. Other top targets we should have a great chance at -

Little Jr.
Jeffrey M'Ba
T Lewis
Maybe a few of the Oregon commits/decommits

I was going to say that I'd be surprised if Kelly commits before or during ESD because we don't have a DC. But then I remembered we didn't have one under Manny either so 🤷‍♂️
 
12/17 - Updated OP

Added new commits in Nyjalik Kelly, Jacob Lichtenstein, Jaden Harris

Its very very clear Mario is trying to load up on the DL going hard into the portal after Jared Verse and Jayson Jones, 2 mature veteran DL

Banks at CB sounds like he's almost a done deal, Shemar is the prize of the class whether he's a future DE or DT is unknown, but he's the type of Blue Chipper we can't lose

Lastly, recruiting at LB seems quiet since Wes commitment. Maybe Mario has had a chance to evaluate the guys we have (Keontra, Chase Smith, Brooks, TAC, Huff, Flagg) and realized we have a ton of talent that was just getting screwed by Manny's scheme

Updated OP - Added Position Grades, Misses, and Analysis

Overall: Would've loved to land some of the big time DEs, but again in a turnover year this class is very solid. Kelly, Wesley, and Graves were huge gets IMO and prob wouldn't have come here if not for Mario

Analysis: Again without Mario we would've been screwed. Moss and Kelly look like future studs. Shemar is a huge lose though. He's the type of guy that we can't let get away. There was a ton of talent at DE in SoFla, hurts to only land 2 recruits at DE.

  1. Ahmad Moten COMMIT
  2. Antonio Moultrie COMMIT - Portal
  3. Jacob Lichtenstein COMMIT - Portal
Misses: Zane Durant (PSU), Daniel Lyons (FSU), Christian Miller (UGA), Jeffrey M'Ba (AUB), Anthony Lucas (A&M)

Analysis: Great job by Mario to add 3 pieces when the previous staff had nothing. 2 Veteran developed transfers and a high ceiling late bloomer in Moten. Sounds like we're after Dorlus in the portal too. Need to land some big boys in 2023 though

LB: 1 Grade: B+
  1. Wesley Bissainthe COMMIT (EE)
Misses: Demario Tolan (LSU), Omar Graham (FSU)

Analysis: Landed the top LB in SoFla, and maybe the best LB prospect we've signed since Sean Spence. Sounds like we may go after 1 more guy in the portal

CB: 3 Grade: B+
  1. Chris Graves COMMIT
  2. Khamauri Rogers COMMIT (EE)
  3. Jaden Harris COMMIT
  • Keidron Smith - Portal
Misses: Earl Little Jr.(ALA), Trequon Fegans (ALA), Ja'Cari Henderson (UCF)

Analysis: IMO Graves will be a stud, and Harris looks like a steal. Rogers being an EE is huge for him to come back from Injury. Would've been nice to land Earl Little Jr., but we all know how that recruitment went

S: 1 Grade: B+
  1. Markeith Williams COMMIT

Misses: Kamari Wilson (UF), Damari Henderson (UCF)

Analysis: Landed a top ballhawk S to add to our already loaded S room.

Those grades are VERY LOW for a top 15 class!! I think CB and DE should both be A- at worst. We got 2 studs at DE. And two Studs at CB and a pure speedster with size we can coach up.
