Such a mistake for these fringe players to just give up that final year. Most of these kids aren’t getting drafted and at best are practice squad players given the competition in the NFL. If JHH has another year he should come back, unless he plans on transferring of course elsewhere.
And again I just think the issue is room…Most of us see us bringing in 4-5 NEW DT (regardless of where from, portal/HS, includes Burroughs)…And I don't see us carrying 11 or 12 on the roster. So let's say 1 of Gore/Taylor/JHH stay (and obviously not all of those are created equal!!). Let's go with 4 (Russell, Jones, another portal or frosh)…
DT: SeniorStay/Burroughs/Moten/Horton/C.A./Campbell/New/New/New…That's 9
And then put in a range of numbers at other positions below…AND THIS WOULD ALREADY NEEDING SOME ATTRITION TO GET TO, especially at OL:
DE: 7 (maybe 1 more)
LB: 9 (maybe 1 less)
CB: 8
S: 6 (maybe 1 less)
Swing DB: 2 (Richards, Day types)
Specialist: 3
QB: 3 (maybe 1 more)
RB: 6 (maybe 1 less)
WR: 10 (if we bring in just the current 3 and bumping out Redding and Restrepo to NFL just to get to this number!)
TE: 5 (maybe 1 less)
OL: 15 (maybe 1 more)
That leaves room for two more players
And in all these threads everyone is talking about the possibilities of all these guys staying plus they talk about tons of portal help coming in…And consensus is from seemingly everyone we will bring in between 25 and 28 HS kids (Gabby and others seem to repeatedly quote 27)
Although I didn't break down the names at every position because I don't have time, the rundown above (not including the parentheses in/out) :
- No more DE help
- Includes 1 portal LB out
- If we assume 5 new OL faces (I would expect one portal or juco included in that number of 5)…and that only 2 of Rivers, Sap, Dennis, R-Rod, Washington, are on the team next year
Yet in every post I here that these players should/have to/stay or def will be back
Chaney
Parrish
X
The other 2 DT from the list
TVD
Kinchens
J Will
I just don't see it because I'm already baking in a ton of attrition…Not attacking you or any other poster. I'm just saying that's a lot for 2 spots…Sure there could be 4-5 spots, but again I'm already baking a lot of attrition in. Will be interesting. Just can't see all these kids everyone says "have another year" staying while we are continuing to stack chips.
This post just focused on numbers for the DT position…can do it everywhere
There isn't room to have
11 DT…but also (or even any?)
4 QB
6 TE
11 WR
8 DE
7 RB
