If he's a DB the only thing I care about is him having speed
I disagree with that...I like em both ...And this kid's a take for sure. But Colson looks electric out there. Case to be made for both, but Colson has higher upside imo.
I like both as well. This kid is bigger and a little more refined with certain things, definitely more physical.
Colson intrigues me for 2 reasons - his backpedal/hips look fantastic and he looks explosive on D as well as WR. So even if he's a project, bring him in and let him develop. We lack depth at both positions and he can fill a hole in either.
Colson isn't even a Corner, he's a fast WR that they put at CB.I disagree with that...I like em both ...And this kid's a take for sure. But Colson looks electric out there. Case to be made for both, but Colson has higher upside imo.

The two of them aren't in the same stratosphere in terms of actual cover ability.
Colson is a 1,000% guaranteed redshirt, McDonald can play as a TF. Big difference between the two.
Colson is not playing as a TF.
The three people in charge of getting linebackers here are manure patkuck and faker. You do the mathNo, i wouldn't expect him to.
But we have 6 CBs and 7 WRs. That's it. We start losing kids for any reason and it gets dicey. We played a walk-on LB last year. Miami....where LBs litter the history books.
That's basically my point, we need immediate depth, not redshirt depth. No, i wouldn't expect him to.

Marcus Clarke is already project, adding a kid like Colson is taking another project, I'd rather we get a kid who can play right away than a player that won't be ready as a TF.
It's been rumored that Bandy could consider declaring after the Bowl game, I'm not saying he is, but if he did we would be fcked. It's why I've been hoping we got a JUCO this class because we need playable available Corners bad for depth in the event of injury.
Taking a bunch of projects who need redshirts isn't a very smart thing to do considering how bad our numbers are right now.
McDonald doesn't have a low ceiling, he's a 88.4 rated CB, in order to get a 4-star you have to be an 89 or up, he's literally 6 tenths of a point from a 4-star, in fact he was actually a 4-star earlier in the year before they dropped him a bit.I get that but most kids signed. If we can find one more ready to play i'm on board. But at this point i'm looking for upside and physical traits with what's left, not immediate contributors with low ceilings. Our DB, LB and OL recruiting is bad right now.

McDonald is a very good physical corner with ball skills & good speed, he's not as fast as Colson, but he's decidedly better at literally everything you need a CB to do AND can play right away lol.
Colson is just fast with not much else, he's not depth because he's going to have to redshirt next year to get bigger & actually learn how to play CB in our system.
**** I would take both if we could, but if we had to chose one give me the high 3-star boarder line 4-star from a very good HS program that plays tough comp & is the bigger, stronger, ballhawk with better coverage ability over the kid that's a low 3-star that doesn't really have anything in his repertoire besides speed.
IF you only want to go after kids with special talent that haven't already shown no interest, I have news for you. We would not sign another player the cycleThe number one rule is "recruit talent". I don't see a special talent.
Is the staff on or aware of McDonald ? Shields was a 4 satr WR who busted at that position and was converted to CB as a senior. At this point we are looking to fill out a class, most 4 and 5 star guys are zeroed in on their top schools. There are a few more athletes that remain. Did you ever hear of Sam Shields?
