2020 & 2021 CB Prospects

My 1 question is why hasn't Rumph had a guy go in the 1st 2 days of the draft yet? I think he's a good developer of talent but why hasn't it translated yet?

I thought he was too but one of techniques are horrible..for example..like having his corners give up inside & protecting the outside....it makes zero sense to me & it’s why our guys give up slant routes like it’s nothing.

EXACTLY how I would describe him.

Everybody's concerned about meaningless combine numbers.
The kid simply KNOWS HOW TO PLAY CORNER. He's a football player.

Yall describing a player without weaknesses. He has quite a few of them from his highlights alone...he’s a very good player but I don’t see “one of the most technical players I’ve seen”.

Good prospect but he’s not this technician either.

Ask your contacts at western what do they think of Jaylin Collins who just transferred over there. He’s a 2021 kid who could end up likely better than Hodges.

51 DB's (32 CB's) in the 2019 draft selected & the majority of them were not 5-stars coming out of HS.

The first DB taken in the 2019 draft was S Darnell Savage Jr out of Maryland, a 3-star ATH from Delaware.
The first CB taken was Deandre Baker a local 3-star from MNW.

Rock Ya-Sin (Temple) was an unrated Prep school kid & got drafted at pick 34 (#2) in the 2nd round. Sean Bunting was a low ranked converted WR coming out HS & was a high 2nd round pick out of Central Michigan. Lonnie Johnson Jr was a 3-star CB from Indiana who went to 2 different Jucos before ending up at Kentucky & was a 2nd round draft pick.

I could go on, but the point is the key is to find the right player that fits your system & develop them. Recruit traits & upside as to what the player will look like after 3-4 years in your system. Am I saying don't recruit 4/5-star players or that stars don't matter? NO. I'm saying the most important factor is how YOU (the Coach/program) evaluate the player & how you see them in long run down the line.

One draft don’t quite make that point point...recruit elite athletes with a true hunger & coach em up.

I've seen him in person a couple times. Played against him at a tournament a few weeks ago.

That's where my assessment comes from, not the highlight tape.

Yeah I’ve seen him also on the 7on7 circuit & I had to evaluate his film. Needs work on his technique & isn’t highly technical. A really good athlete at this point but he false steps a lot & opens up the gate too much in press. Good jam when he gets hands on & he’s winning most jump balls.

Don’t forget to ask them dudes at western about the new transfer Jaylin Collins.

Just talked to my buddy who coaches Hodges, he says...

"Little raw. 1st yr of Varsity last yr. Long, good makeup speed. Understands keys n concepts. Starts on my defcon1 team. Loves to work and grind. Now stop trying to recruit my kids🤣 🤣 "

My boy said "J-Bo is a dawg." (the Jaylin kid)

I first originally posted on Hodges back in December of 2018 (see page 1), even back then I liked this kid as a prospect.

He's one of the most technically sound players I've seen at the High school level as a Junior heading into his Senior year. The kid's footwork is top notch, flips his hips well, tracks the ball in the air, stays in the WR's hip pocket & has good ball skills.

The only knock on him is he's doesn't have the blazing speed you'd like, but he plays much faster than his 40 time & given how advanced he is in technique it makes up for what he lacks in pure strait line speed.

A legit 6'1/6'2 big physical Corner with high leaping ability as well, reminds me of Jimmy Smith from the Ravens.

I love this pickup, under Rumph's tutelage this kid could be a real killer in the ACC.

Great post, LCL!

This is exactly what I said when I saw his film for the first time last night. (I commented on his commitment thread)

Either CiS posters are not watching the film or they know absolutely nothing when it comes to scouting, and what to look for depending on the position.

You saw exactly what I saw, and you’ve seen him in live game action. Don’t think that my eyes are deceiving me.

I mean look at the guys he was working with who have entered the draft: Delaney (overrated transfer), Dean (overrated Juco), and Michael Jackson (who many considered a JAG before his junior year).

Let's at least see where Bandy, Blades, and Ivey end up before we can judge his draft pedigree. These 3 at least have draft round 1-2 capabilities.

5'8 170lbs CB from Carol City Travis McNichols Jr, his Dad played for CC too.

Had a great Sophomore year with 26tcks 15PBU's & 7INT's.

This kid is another one of the smaller CB's in the 21 class like Massie, Burns at MNW (see page 1) & Rance Conner at BTW, but is a straight up blue nose pit on that corner.

He's got high level ball skills & for his height has great leaping ability, Idk his vertical but whenever he hits the camp circuit you can bet money it's gonna be high. No official testing numbers on his speed but looks pretty **** fast.

If he were simply 2 inches a lil taller he'd be a high ranked 4-star no doubt, but he's a good football player regardless. I think we'd be smart to offer him eventually.
