Per 247:
Devonta Smith decommitted in January after Richt left town. Miami offered on March 2nd but he wasn't surprised considering who was in charge.
"With Mark Richt being the former head coach at Georgia, I knew him from before," Smith said. "I only met him once but he's definitely a very Christian man. That stands out to me as something that I look for in a head coach. We had been talking for awhile and it just worked out that they offered me a few weeks ago."
It didn't take Richt's arrival for Smith (6-1, 165) to consider the Hurricanes, although it probably did sweeten the pot a little bit. He even knows somebody who's been in Coral Gables since the new staff was assembled.
"Well I've been following the 'U' for a long time and I've watched the 30 for 30s," Smith said. "My family are Miami fans and people around my community are too so that's all we talk about. I'm close with Shyheim Carter and he said they have a beautiful campus after he went down there for an official visit."
Smith's list isn't massive in numbers but it's quality is as good as it gets. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are his eleven other BCS offers.
"No leaders, everybody is equal right now and they're all recruiting me the same," Smith said. "I probably won't make up my mind until the end of football season because I have to look at how teams do. That should give me more options and more time to think about what I want to do. The next schools I'm trying to visit are Miami, and Notre Dame if I can."
Smith has visited Alabama seven times and LSU on four occasions. He has seen Florida State and Georgia twice to go along with Mississippi State and Ole Miss once.
90% of Smith's Crystal Ball Predictions may be in favor of the Crimson Tide but he's more focused on diversifying his options, not resting on the current ones.
"It's truly a blessing, everyone playing high school football dreams of getting offers," Smith said. "I worked very hard to get here so I feel good about that. I stayed motivated until it happened and once it did, I decided to keep it going."
