Devonta Smith decommitted in January after Richt left town. Miami offered on March 2nd but he wasn't surprised considering who was in charge.

"With Mark Richt being the former head coach at Georgia, I knew him from before," Smith said. "I only met him once but he's definitely a very Christian man. That stands out to me as something that I look for in a head coach. We had been talking for awhile and it just worked out that they offered me a few weeks ago."

It didn't take Richt's arrival for Smith (6-1, 165) to consider the Hurricanes, although it probably did sweeten the pot a little bit. He even knows somebody who's been in Coral Gables since the new staff was assembled.

"Well I've been following the 'U' for a long time and I've watched the 30 for 30s," Smith said. "My family are Miami fans and people around my community are too so that's all we talk about. I'm close with Shyheim Carter and he said they have a beautiful campus after he went down there for an official visit."

Smith's list isn't massive in numbers but it's quality is as good as it gets. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are his eleven other BCS offers.

"No leaders, everybody is equal right now and they're all recruiting me the same," Smith said. "I probably won't make up my mind until the end of football season because I have to look at how teams do. That should give me more options and more time to think about what I want to do. The next schools I'm trying to visit are Miami, and Notre Dame if I can."

Smith has visited Alabama seven times and LSU on four occasions. He has seen Florida State and Georgia twice to go along with Mississippi State and Ole Miss once.

90% of Smith's Crystal Ball Predictions may be in favor of the Crimson Tide but he's more focused on diversifying his options, not resting on the current ones.

"It's truly a blessing, everyone playing high school football dreams of getting offers," Smith said. "I worked very hard to get here so I feel good about that. I stayed motivated until it happened and once it did, I decided to keep it going."

Richt's message about needing speedy receivers was directed squarely at this young man and players like him.

****, I wish we wouldve got Shyheim.
we got into that late...we probably would've if CMR had a year to recruit him, I heard he's good friends with 4* athlete Keldrick Carper who has us and TAMU leading for him.

He would be a solid pull for certain, but that's a lot of trips to Bama and Cajun country.

Those Louisiana kids love the U, we need to be recruiting the **** out of that state

They say that and may very well mean it, but I've fallen for that line from them too many times in the past. I'm by no means saying the coaches shouldn't pursue recruits from that state, but I won't believe we're landing one until they sign on the dotted line.

Very impressive! Great length and frame to add muscle in addition to great quickness, speed, accelacceleration and explosion. Great hands too. Looks like a speedy version of Rodney Scott. Does he have any upside at CB in your opinion? He's a definite take IMO.

Devonta named his three schools on top to rivals today, was wondering if anyone with a sub can pitch in and tell us

Lsu Miami bama

That's awesome to hear, I was told he would be along longshot a very long time ago on a different thread.

No firm decision date and also so fsu is hanging around
He's a signing day guy, he's a perennial top 50 player in the country those guys always wait til February. FSU always seems to be around for everyone so I'm not surprised about that either

Hey, have you heard or read anything about Jaylen Harris?? He supposedly training in Miami and was supposed to visit. I know he really doesn't post when he visits places but he's remained constant that he was visiting one of the two weeks he was down here training. Peter Ariz have you heard anything about it??

Those Louisiana kids love the U, we need to be recruiting the **** out of that state

Those Louisiana kids seem to love LSU a lot more.We seem to go hard after a couple every year and they end up picking the home team.Smith was committed to Richt at georgia and decommitted when he was fired, you would think we would be leading comfortably now.

We've gotten lots of big-time players from Louisiana over the years....

With a high quality coach and plenty of wins on the way, we'll be getting more soon enough....

What bigtime players you referring to.Reed and Wayne in the 90s.Last one I can remember was Jolla almost 15 years ago.Last year we chased a DT who kept claiming loved miami even when Golden was here and in the end still picked LSU even after they already had 3 top 20 DTs committed to the class. We need a couple solid seasons before we can go and take someone from LSU.
