Our top 5 recruits are all elite talents and might be draft casualties.
Curbelo is likely a top 2-3 round pick.
Luzardo was sky rocketing up draft projections until he got injured earlier this spring. He had Tommy-John and may still be a top pick. The chances of him getting to campus definitely increased with the injury though.
Welker is tearing it up this spring, but I think he will end up on campus. He's a big time talent and would likely step in at SS right away.
Amditis is another huge talent. At the Under Armour All-American game last fall he hit a grand slam. Like Luzardo he is also out all spring with injury. Amditis might be the most important recruit in this class. We will have a huge hole at Catcher and he would step in and start right away.
Veliz is a two-way star and SS and on the mound. His fastball has topped out at 97 this spring. Kids got a huge arm and will likely be drafted high and go pro.

There was a time where Jesus Luzardo and Colton Welker weren't that good, but that was a long time ago lol. Btw I'm so happy Colton is where he's at right now, he's been through a lot.

North Broward Prep say they're in Creek but they're literally on the border of Boca and Creek. Palm beach County Fire rescue actually does the medical service for their football games 80% percent of the time.

Past couple of years have been a lot better with going after kids who didn't turn pro out of HS.

Agreed. This year could go either way. If we can keep 2/3 out of those 5 its a win. 2017 class is a different story. We have the number 1 and 3 ranked players nationally committed. Surefire 1st rounders.

Past couple of years have been a lot better with going after kids who didn't turn pro out of HS.

It's all luck.

Last year we had a top 100 player (Kep Brown) drop in the draft and not sign and we still didn't get him to campus in the Fall.

South Florida Elite Squad continues to send kids our way. They're the best summer ball team in south Florida every year. Richie Palmer, brother of former Canes LF Tyler Palmer runs the program. Summer ball is taking over HS baseball, it's all about perfect game showcases ..etc. As long as we have an in with my Palmer he'll continue to funnel us top guys. A lot of these commits played on the same summer team actually.

Elite's a pipeline, they've been pro Miami back when they first started, btw you want to play in perfect game tourneys to get your players invited to the showcases...

No, it isn't luck. It's about understanding who is likely to go pro and having solid secondary options. The past that tcgrad is referring to has seen us get raided by the draft and then fill the spot with a player who doesn't deserve to wear our uniform.

Summer baseball is not taking over high school baseball. None of the showcases or tournaments occur during the high school season. And when a kid signs, you hear that he is from Parkland Douglas, not from the Boca Barracudas.

Everybody recruits the same players. You either get a lucky break or not. Simple as that.

Nobody that you are signing late in the summer (after the draft) is going to be a difference maker.

I don't give a flip what either of you two clowns say.

There haven't been two people more wrong over the last 3 years than you two.

Right, because signing a kid who is going to be a top five pick while having no backup plan is solid recruiting. "Maybe we'll just get lucky." We're paying a million dollars for that philosophy. Let's just hope we get lucky.

And we wonder why a single trip to Omaha in the last seven years is being celebrated by you people.

Except that the results on the field prove that the recruiting plan was flawed.

Right, because signing a kid who is going to be a top five pick while having no backup plan is solid recruiting.

You don't have a backup plan for a top 5 player. You sign him in hopes that he drops in the draft. Other than that you recruit the same way you always have.

We've had 8th round picks come to school and 16th round picks sign.

It's not an exact science.

The recruiting plan has been basically the same since 1994 except the we can't take as many JUCO players.

But you're the guy who denies that Gino DiMare makes a difference so we know who we're dealing with.
