i think we should have left mayes last class and loaded up this year. i would fully expect C.Davis, D.Davis, & Cole play before him

Mayes was a good Pickup IMO. i would have rather Mayes then Bethel if we had to choose one. Mayes can be moved to saftey which i think is his natural position.

Then that will happen and Mayes will be depth. But for now, in 2014, he is the only one that can help us during the season.

This is just something I don't get. What's last years class have to do with this years? Worst case scenario is Mayes would be depth at the position if we get the guys we want and they turn out to be what we think they will.

So give away 80,000 a year for just "depth" . In sofla we should never pick up a WR/DB if he can't compete for play time. But that jus my opinion

I get what you're saying man, but that's a risky game to play. I hope those kids you want on the team (as I'm sure all of us would like to have them on the team as well) do commit to the U. But you can't deny other kids in previous years, HOPING that we get the studs the following year. Now say we get one, and we have little to no depth.
 
Funny how everyone is counting out Mayes without even having seen the kid play against college competition. Great logic.

So whats the point of recruiting? should we just pick up guys and say "Well he sat on the bench in HS but we haven't seen him against College competition"

No hate against Mayes but im only talking talent. I hope he is Morris Claiborne 2.0

Mayes was no scrub in high school. He was a starter and has athletic traits that a lot of coaches look for. IMO, I think we should give the kid the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

Would have had no depth. Needed to take that hit even if he doesn't pan out.

Dortch and Hope ended up leaving.

All we have at corner now is

Gunter
Howard
Burns
Elder
Crawford
Lewis
Mayes

Only 5 have some experience. And it's been noted Lewis could end up moving to RB at some point. Which I doubt would happen in the future with all the runningbacks coming.

If Mayes doesn't end up developing down the line and can't move up. Will be another Hope and Dortch situation. Or he could end up at safety, has more versatility than they did, being able to play multiple positions.

Either way. A class of Cole, Davante and Carlton is exactly what we need. I think Howard is gone with a great year improving off the good season he had as a sophomore. Gunter graduates. Those 3 could come in and contribute right away behind Burns and Elder the most likely starters next season.

We would be left with.

Burns
Elder
Crawford
Mayes
Lewis

Remember it's been said. If Tim Irvin comes. Probably gonna play some nickel/safety. Carlton projected there too. So that's a potential 4 corners for 2015 class.

I agree and said this at the beginning of the year, I also will say that people have to understand its good to load up at a particular position when recruits favor your school. It would be dumb if we we didn't try to land cole, davis, davis, mcfadden, johnson, and irvin. I would throw in McFadden just in case someone goes elsewhere. Their is also two DBs from Cali Buncom and Holiday I smh cause we are not recruiting them hard.

I'd agree with you if we were guaranteed to get them all, but none of them are even committed. Along the lines of excusing losing elite players because we'll get so and so next year only for them to shun is too.
