2014 Starting QB

Regardless of who wins the job we are going to see a HEAVY dose of the running game early in the season. The coaches are going to have less confidence in a brand new starter. Golden has also acknowledged that our inability to consistently keep drives going has hurt the defense. I think we'll see fewer deep balls on first down and more rushes with the hope that we have more manageable third down situations.

Spring should be interesting. If Williams is the QB it's helpful to announce that before summer. If they don't, that tells me Olsen is in the mix.

I would love to see a 60/40 split. We can't be obvious in formations and give the play away prior to the snap. And the *** slap has got to go. It's time for this team to be playing Chess not checkers.

100% it's going to be Wi11iams...and I'm ok with that (for now). You give Kaaya a year to redshirt and Olsen gets another year to get his **** together and he'll be the first one in on "mop up" duty.

Agree with this. I actually feel Williams can be an
Upgrade over Morris.

Golden would rather start a disabled Morris then put in Williams.

Bet is Olsen or Kaaya.

I'm not sure why he wouldn't go to Williams but I still think he can make this offense run. I think we will see wr's catching the balloon stride and creating after the catch we just won't be throwing down field as much. Look for warlord and sand land to be more a part of the offense as well.

I Olsen is pushing for the job though and it's a tie I agree with going with the younger guy.

I really think Golden was in a tough spot with Morris this year. He had a solid year the year before despite suffering a million drops. But this year when he was struggling, he stuck with SM because all of the NCAA BS as he did with most of the seniors. That's actually admirable IMO.

Moving forward i think AG takes a best man wins approach. I think Williams will get every chance to start and I think he'll be the best of the previous 2 of Golden's tenure. I think the offense will look more compact with a less low percentage balls down field. Use Duke and Yearby in space more and in the short passing game and Dallas as your goal line back to keep them both healthy. Williams will have a 23TD 5 int type season IMO.

Difference in Morris and Williams is Morris was seen as a leader. You don't sit a leader. Duke will be the leader on the O this year. Not sure why everyone is down on Williams. Give him his chance and lets see what he can do.

Golden could play it two ways start Williams and hope for that big season we have been waiting for or buy himself more time and start either a RS QB or a fresh QB.

That's moronic. He is paid to win games, not be admirable. There were a couple times he should have pulled SM. But then again we are talking about a HC that doesn't think there is anything wrong with the defense.

I will say this, if he starts Williams, he needs to have a real short leash. Not like the one Jacory and Morris had.
If Williams isn't cutting it early, start Olsen to see what you have. And if he ***s up, put in Kaaya.
We need to have our true QB figured out before 2015 which should be the year that makes or breaks Golden.

I would like to see a fair competition, but I think the staff would feel better about their jobs w/ Williams as the guy.

Anyone here honestly think AG will not start Williams?

Cmon mane.

(I would start Williams too if it were my call. Unless of course one of the frosh comes in and destroys spring ball)

Golden has a strange loyalty to upperclassmen. I'm not saying that Olsen is better than Williams and should definitely start over him. I just don't think Olsen will get a fair shot because Golden loves his upperclassmen even if the younger guy behind him is more talented.

Unless Olsen is a straight up dumpster fire it would be a huge waste to not start him. Williams is a nice back up but he's not the future of this team. Get Olsen in there and let him get some experience.

I am interested in seeing if we have a diamond in the rough with Rosier as he will probably redshirt and play baseball like another Alabama HS QB He will be our most mobile QB in years and might be the big surprise down the road though I think Kaaya is the real deal.

Not a single vote here for Tate Forcier? Shame on all of you!

That aside, at least there's some motivation to go to the spring game now. It's time for Olsen to show something and at least make this interesting. I still have a little bit of a bad feeling about him eventually requesting to transfer if Williams is seemingly annointed the starter and then the staff drools over Kaaya once he arrives. Let's hope not though as a little real depth at the position and the ability to properly redshirt would be freaking nice for once.

Williams vs Olsen for starter. Kaaya redshirt and learn the offense. Then in 2015, even if Olsen looks great or beats out Ryan Williams in 2014, its Olsen vs Kaaya and may the best man win.

The only thing that matters is who is best suited to win the 12-14 games we will play during the 2014 season. If that's Ryan Williams, then Ryan Williams should start. If its someone else, then that person should start.
