2014 Schedule is not hard based on various preseason polls

Pre-season polls are not the most accurate but they are the best baseline for gauging strength of upcoming schedule in the spring. Looking at various publications, I do not get the perception that 2014's schedule are hard. Below are different preseason polls:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo.../24401168/2014-preseason-top-25-a-first-guess
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/PostSigning-Day-waytooearly-Top-25.html
http://espn.go.com/college-football...tate-leads-2014-way-too-early-top-25-rankings

The only teams projected to be ranked that we play next year are:
FSU #1 : #1 : #1
UNC NR : #24 : #17
Louisville #25 : #23 : NR

So in sum we play one top 10 team and two teams that are borderline projected to ranked. Assuming we aren't devastated by injuries this team based on its roster should be expected to win 11 games in my opinion. Therefore, we no NCAA mess and a roster that I believe is now restocked, makes 2014 the baseline year for my confidence in Coach Golden - as right now I think both Golden apologists and detractors make strong valid arguments.

Ahhh, the good ol' preseason polls. The lifeblood of SEC "dominance". Every clown school in that conference is probably viewed as having a killer schedule. A falsehood that'll carry through the season guaranteeing no "bad" losses and consistent overrankings. And we'll all complain when they ALWAYS get 2 teams in the playoff each year.

But yeah, Canes schedule doesn't appear to be horrendous. Alert me when the day comes that UF schedules a Nebraska type road game though.

and you say this because? they lose their entire coaching staff, lose the best QB in the nation, lose their best defender and bring in the worst recruiting class in the ACC this year…. yeah, they're really "trending upwards"

UF tough OOC road game is
FSU. They play Alabama, LSU, S. Carolina, Georgia, FSU and Missouri. That's 5 top-11 teams plus the #17 based on the linked poll...Nebraska isn't ****e compared to who they're playing.

Guarantee they never schedule powerhouse Georgia Southern again! Lol

Preseason polls are indeed a joke. I am of the group that says there should be no rankings until October 1st or so. Popularity contest is all it is. And the teams outside the top 25 have way more to make up.

I don't buy the SEC hype. I believe the SEC is the best conference currently. But, they are nowhere near the super conference many hypesters (read ESPN) would like me to believe.

I agree, but until the rest of the country sees it our way we get to take it in the cooter.

It is tougher than last year's and we will be breaking in a new QB, a few new OL and very little proven talent at DT.

We know about FSU, VT, UNC and GT but Louisville wont be easy either. Neither will Nebraska.

Nebraska
Ga tech
Va tech
Fsu

Are the only 4 losses i can possibly see

Only loss penciled in is FSU.. Nebraska is a toss up and VTech will be weak this year 7-5, 6-6 weak.. GTECH is a W the only team Coach D and Golden have figured out. They haven't beaten us in 6 years...

My point is that our strength of schedule nationally next year will be average at best. Yes our schedule is harder this year than last however last years schedule was a joke outside of FSU. Therefore, we should be debating and setting our expectations based on how hard our schedule is nationally and with that baseline I think Golden needs to show me he can win more than 9 games. There is also only one team in our division even expected to be ranked so there is no excuse to not win the coastal based on the standards of winning set by past Miami greats.

You do realize that this is somewhat contradictory right? The hype is there because they are in fact the best conference, yes there is hyperbole to how good it really is, but it doesnt change the fact that currently and recently been the best.

Same strength of schedule as last year. I said this a month ago but the mental midgets here did not agree. Louisville, VT, n Nebraska are equal to us with a brand new QB. Also, Winston will see a drop off in his game. Everything went his way this year.

Louisville loses the best offensive MVP in the AAC and the best defensive MVP in the AAC (DE Smith) who both made big plays against us. They aren't nearly going to be as good while the whole country was surprised that Pelini wasn't fired for how ****** Nebraska played last year

Please. UF being mandated to play FSU as a rivalry game does not excuse the SEC's severe lack of non-conference scheduling. We're fed a false premise prior to each season (just like the one you put forth) that the ENTIRE conference is of such superior quality that when you clowns lose to each other (as that's all you play) it never drops the losing team too far in the rankings. This guarantees that all wins are great wins and and no losses are bad losses. This is exactly how a garbage Georgia team stayed ranked for so long last season and an A&M team that beat NOBODY ranked and had 4 losses never fell out of the polls. It also allowed for Mizzou to rocket to the top of the polls in a manner that would have been impossible for any other team to do with the same "quality" wins over teams like Georgia.

Sure, Nebraska isn't what it once was but we'll still schedule known non-conf programs years in advance (often to our detriment- see KState) We just agreed to a home and home against Michigan State. UF clowns will still be resorting to "Butttttttt we play FSU!!!" forever.

To bad the game is in Louisville on Labor Day in primetime.

A decent class was salvaged. Give Petrino a year or two with these guys and you might be surprised.
