Why the **** is every depth chart that we put out a 4-3 but we're a 3-4 team?

Gets my hopes up for nothing.

We were a 4-3 team in years 1 and 2 for the most part. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that a) we have a definitive identity on defense (apart from being awful) and b) that we'll adhere to the 3-4 moving forward regardless of the personnel on the rooster.

It doesn't really matter what we run, the problem is how passive we are in how we run it. We ran a 4-3 last year and it was the same passive approach as our 3-4 this year.

While I don't love our approach on defense I think an infusion of talent to supplement the guys that Golden has already brought in should make for a better unit regardless of the style.

It's not a 3-4 / 4-3 argument . It's a passive versus aggressive argument. Rex Ryan runs a 3-4 and he blitzes you off the bus.

Shocked if Perryman returns. In any case, shouldn't have too many underclassmen starting next year. Maybe AQM and Figs (though he'll be 3 yrs removed from HS). If we play how we played this year, Wyche better be an exceptional NT and stay healthy.

The lack of a dominant NT or a dominant DL period is why I'm thinking 4-3.

Thomas, Moten, Valentine, Wyche, Harris could all be ready to play immediately from a physical standpoint.

I'd have to ask why they continued the transition to this version if they weren't going to move forward with it. It's not like Curtis Porter was the prototype, large-bodied NT and we decided to play to his strengths. He was asked to gain 20 pounds.

Maybe Wyche is our Jesse Williams. I could also see us using three big-bodied DL like FSU and sacrifice some pass rushing and rely on a great back seven.

With the guys we're recruiting I'm hoping for this in 2015:

DE McCord - AQM - Jackson - Hoilett
DT Moten - Valentine - King
DT Wyche - Moore - Jenkins
DE Thomas - Hamilton - Harris

I just generally assume he's ******* around, but this version is pretty good. At least we're looking at football stuff.

Hamilton should slide inside to Pierre's role. It's a shame how things have played out with him so far. He's talented. He played early as a True Frosh. He gained a bunch of weight and slid inside this year. Next year, he'll be a true junior already. He looks like he's on the Luther Robinson path.

I like this as long as guys like Wyche, Moore, Jenkins are up to the task at NT. Maybe Valentine as well. I doubt Carter jumps Jenkins considering he can't get on the field at all. I also am not sold on Thomas as an OLB. I think he's got the frame to end up around 270 lbs.

I just don't see a linebacker when I look at Thomas. He's a big dude.

Rok...he's like 240, which is around the weight of our 3-4 OLBs. He may grow into a 3-4 DE though, but right now the size weight combo would put him squarely at 3-4 OLB....and Golden wants those guys at 252 anyway, that was what he said AQM should be at be at next year. Not sure Thomas can cover the flat, but he'd be a good rush backer for a year till he fills out more.
