2013 Predicted Depth Chart

We can't lose with Gaines and Kirby battling in the middle. For Gaines he needs to add another 10 pounds of muscle so he can be more of a thumper in the middle. Kirby needs to close the gap on the knowledge lead Gaines has. My guess is they come close to splitting the snaps, but Gaines will be the starter.

Gaines is great against the run. Kid kills GT. But he is a liability in coverage. I dont think he needs to gain weight, IMO he, like Chick, just need another year to get used to being as big as they are. they are two guys who put on some solid weight before the year and you could see they had not quite gotten used to being that big. If they are great athletes they will adjust this offseason as they are used to being bigger. Now they just need to keep their size and work on speed and agility.

Mark it down...Crawford over Gunter

Lulz

Gunter was probably our best CB in the last half of the season.

Unfortunately that's not saying a lot. Gunter was like a cornerback version of Ramon Buchanon who I call the invisible linebacker.
He'll flash one play and you think he's great then will be looking for the ball when the receiver has already caught it and is 10 yards past.
Gunter is somewhere between Mike Williams who was a stationary speed bump and Demarcus Van Dyke....in other words Ladarius Gunter is exactly what we thought he would be.....Ladarius Gunter an average college cb whose ceiling is being a good college cb.

What we need to do is pressure the qb somehow, someway even if it means rushing 7 and leaving everyone man to man.
With the offense we have coming back we don't need a great defense. An average one will do just fine.

I guess I was watching the wrong Gunter all year. To me he looked very solid throughout the season. As the season wore on, he seemed to get better and better. He is a solid tackler and I remember him getting beat maybe twice all year. I don't know if he'll start next season, but he's gonna play a lot either way. Oh and please........never compare one of our players to Mike Williams ever again.

Nope you were watching the right Gunter. As I said he flashed in every game and I'm hoping he gets more consistent next year.
We sure need him to be.

Mike Williams was torturous for me to watch. I've been a Cane for over 30 years and Mike Williams was the worst corner I've ever seen.

Worst than CHavez Grant??????

Sweating our depth at safety. Really need Kacy Rodgers to take big step forward and become more instinctive and more physical and play faster. Bush is so physical we almost need him to dial that back just a touch to insure he's able to stay on the field all season. I love his attitude and playing style, which is old school Cane all the way. I predict that before he leaves UM receivers will be crocodile arming passes when he is near.

If we need a Sr to improve on all of these intangibles you just mentioned, we might as well sit his *** on the bench and let an underclassmen make the mistakes. Rodgers just doenst get it bra.
