D. Smith was terrible in his juco highlights also, the kid just took up space and move the pile, which is in essence what you want from your NT in a read and react. The big difference with D. Wilkins is he is moving the pile as he reads on the way make a nasty tackle and that is what you want in an agressive read and react, which is what Coach D started to run later on the year when Porter came back. The key is to someone big enough to hold the point that is strong enough and quick enough to disengage from the block then make a play.
Keep in mind that Wilkins just missed the cut for the Army All-American Game selection and he is an all state and all league two player, now how many linemen have you seen make the All state team for both Offense & Defense in the same year.
