program? 2009 and 2013 are very similar in what our team did. Finished with the same record, in the same ****** bowl. Do you feel more optimistic after year three here after 2009 or 2013? Honestly, I remember back to 2009, and there are striking similarities between 2009 and 2013. Starting off to a hot start, beating a ranked team who we all thought was good, but turned out to be ****** at home that felt like a "we're back" moment (Oklahoma and UF). Ended up barely beating inferior teams (Wake Forest both years) and ended up getting creamed in the Orlando Bowl game. I hate to say it, but I felt more confident after 2009 than I do right now with the direction of the program. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't like where this program is headed.

For those that need a reminder, here is the 2009 season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Miami_Hurricanes_football_team

'13 lots of areas have been addressed, recruiting, strength & conditioning, overall organization, nutrition, facilities etc. It's an unfair comparison really, because many if not all of those things were revealed to be deficient when the coach was replaced.
I also think we have much more talent on offense.

their are similarities, the louisville bowl beating was 10 times worse to me though. at least they still had a chance to win at the end of the wisconsin game, the Rustle bowl team didnt care or appear to want to be there. Never thought i'd say but i'd kill to have that shannon defense again over the crap thats here now

Another similarity-- just like this past year, the senior class that season was weak. Due more to underachieving than lack of talent, but people were optimistic that we would improve the following year with the younger guys getting a bigger role.

Wasn't the schedule tougher to start the year in 09. I mean at Fsu at vt home against gt and ou were a much tougher slate than uf Fau usf and ssu

It seemed that way at the time, but FSU finished the year 7-6, and OU finished 8-5.

even with those numbers, i feel better now...by that point randy's recruiting had taken a dive...if there's one area we are 'trending' positive in, it would be that.

and as i finish this post...i remember that we have no clue on defense...f*ck

That is just nasty as **** to look at.

still now.. Al Golden has a track record of succeeding.. why we thought he'd do it with two recruiting classes i'm not sure... but until i see something trending downward, i'll have faith.

Truth be told, I actually felt better going into '10. There are just too many question marks heading into '14 to be optimistic. Offensively we don't know how Duke will respond coming off a season ending injury, Williams will fare once defenses start clamping down on the underneath passing game, and Kehoe's troops will gel as a unit and perform. Defensively, I guess there's no where to go but to trend upwards. However, I just don't think our defense will drastically improve to the point where we would consider it to be championship caliber. Albeit coastal championship caliber. Color me not feeling better about season '14.

We were 89th, I corrected it. NCAA changed their site and I got it wrong.

I had more faith heading into the 2010 season.

In 2010, the 2008 #1 recruiting class was suppose to take the next step and live up to the hype. Miami had beaten FSU in Tally in 2009 and was suppose to be serious contenders for the ACC going into the season. In addition, Miami was playing Ohio State for the first time since the robbery in the Fiesta bowl.

In 2013, I saw one of the worst Defensive performances in Miami history for the 2nd straight year. We gave up at least 500 yards to nearly every ACC school. The bowl game exposed how poorly coached we are on Offense, Defense (which we already knew) and Special Teams. After the bowl, Golden showed that he is not committed entirely to this program and continues to put his friend before the school. We do have some key players coming back for their senior season; however, I have zero faith that we have the coaches to capitalize on that opportunity. In 2013, our Offense, Defense and Special teams did not improve from the 2012 season, a clear sign that our coaching staff is a joke. A lot of people like to argue that a 9-4 season shows that we have progressed; however, it is painfully obvious that Miami benefitted from an easy schedule. Remember when we were 7-0 and in the top 10? Did you guys think we were really that good? Reality showed its face a little later than usual. In 2014, our schedule will be much tougher, the ACC will be stronger, and Mark D'Onoforio will still be an official employee of the University of Miami. I am pretty confident Miami will not win the ACC coastal and not win more than 8 games.

Would've said both-- as after both bowl games I had a sinking feeling about the direction of the team and program overall-- then I see the defensive rankings, 116th? I guess the answer is 2009. UGH.
