Kid has 2 offers in HS. Invited to Senior Bowl and did great in the one-to-one practices

"You might have never heard of the guy I had to keep moving up. I mentioned UTSA edge rusher Marcus Davenport—a 6' 7" (255) freak of a receiver-turned-pass rusher—a few weeks back. I didn’t have him in my early November mock. I put him at the end of the first round in the initial list I put together this time around, and then multiple execs told me he’s not getting out of the Top 15. I wound up putting him at 14, behind only Chubb among rushers, and Davenport clearly has a chance to rise higher."

The point of this. Gems develop from out of nowhere. So the star thing does have some limitations. Our class looks good. This Rousseau looks like one of those gems, and possibly DT Miller.

I completely agree. I think the DT we picked up late this year will be another example of that.

The star whores just don't get that there are way too many H.S Football players across the country for the recruiting services to know everyone.

Of course this isn't saying that I don't want 5 star prospects. On average, you're going to be better off with the highly-rated kids. But you have to realize "on average" isn't gospel.

I don’t know why there’s so many threads with people defending taking a few 3 star kids. Outside of freak show idiots like @Meat, most don’t have a problem with it. We signed way more 4/5 stars this year than we usually do. It’s not like we took a class loaded with 3 stars. I don’t really get it.

Great point. The only problem with the '18 class is we needed a few more guys, particularly on defense. We really shouldn't be going into year 3 with the depth problems we have on defense. Injuries, dismissals, etc happen.

But you're right. There are few if any reaches in this class. Possibly Bethel, but I don't mind reaching on a guy with his measurables from an important H.S.

I agree. Numbers issues on the DL and at CB. But this is not like Randy Shannon’s 2010 class when he stopped recruiting big time players and got a bunch of 3 stars. This class has the highest star average on 247 weve ever had. Even the 3 star guys like Joyner were ultra productive and had major major offers (FSU, Alabama

A simple trip to 247Sports disputes this 2 & 3* vs 4 & 5* talk. Take a look at the 5* from 2010-2017. With the exception of a couple of kids, the majority of them played at a very high level. I just don't know why our fans love to dispel that 4 & 5* usually turn out to be elite players.

Guys like this young man. Are some hungry *** MF.

Davenport will be playing in the league 12 years from now.

The guy that posted this about the 2 star guy at UTSA did NOT say this is common he states that "there are exceptions to the star system". Some of you need to understand inferences in the English language.

That's a God given fact!

How do you think society keeps electing the same old corrupt, useless officials. Many do not think about what they are saying until they have said it.

Kid went into college as a WR and left a DE

Props to the coaching staff at seeing what was developing.. similar to how Sam shields was a WR here and went to the NFL and became a very above average corner

What percentage of 2 star recruits will turn into first rounders? How many will we have to sign to get the next Marcus Davenport? 2500?

Proof that stars don't matter!!!

is what some of our fans will say, not recognizing that there are exceptions to almost every rule in life, even more so when it comes to evaluating humans and making predictions about the future.

Point taken but if we are able to get Grad transfer Dylan Thompson from Ohio St. to help at DE and DT and also the Clemson kid we should be ok.

I always like to hear about the ones who weren't the big stars coming out, but made a large impact.

Coker may have been the HC when this kid played there. Good evaluation by the staff.

And it sounds like a solid evaluation about Miller - who we thankfully found at the eleventh hour of the '18 recruiting season.

Once we started to see that our DL recruiting was lacking...one guy I wish Miami would have gotten in on was Habakkuk Baldonado from Clearwater. Originally from Italy, he hasn't been playing long, but his film is great (yeah, he's playing trash competition) and has a body that could fill out to a first round pick type.

Under the radar recruit I would have liked to see in the mix late in the process. Ended up signing with Pitt.

Was just going to say think he's a Larry guy originally.
