Brixton Lofgren on the mound in the 7th
As I've said all offseason, we have a lineup that teams now have to critically think about. Regardless of talent levels, we have a great left to right balance of veteran guys who take quality at bats and pockets of energy throughout the orderI’m trying not to overreact because niagra is putrid. Truly atrocious.
But I’ve been on this board from the start screaming about the lack of thoughtful roster construction of this baseball program for a decade plus. Just taking guys to take them because they were perfect game south Florida superstars.
This lineup/roster looks like there was a purpose in creating it and even though we might not have the talent to play with the big boys it’s a massive step in right direction for us to construct the roster with a purpose year in and year out
No you have not. We have *****ed and moaned about this and baserunning opening weekend for yearsI legitimately have heard this every opening series for the past 10 years
And we said it from game 1, this guy just wants to downplay ANY positives seen. I am not saying we are any good, but the poster is correct about better hitting approaches early, not seen in previous yearsYou didn't from me - our hitters approach was terrible the last couple of years. Taking 1st pitch strike right down the middle, trying to pull everything, rarely executing w runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs, etc.
Even the defense was better than I feared, although Niagara put very few hard hit balls in play. And we said it from game 1, this guy just wants to downplay ANY positives seen. The lineup at least *looks* different from previous years - our teams of late looked like they were made up of 90% 1B/DH types, which resulted from the recruiting strategy of focusing on Perfect Game players who hit bombs in BP. The baserunning and defense appeared to be much improved, too. I also liked seeing Tanner Smith chipping in some offense while masterfully handling the pitching staff. As I've said all offseason, we have a lineup that teams now have to critically think about. From when I was in the locker room I could tell these guys were “gamers”. Ego’s checked at the door and all about 3 things: Family, God, and winning. The lineup at least *looks* different from previous years - our teams of late looked like they were made up of 90% 1B/DH types, which resulted from the recruiting strategy of focusing on Perfect Game players who hit bombs in BP. I don't think anyone in here is saying this is an Omaha bound team, it should be at minimum regional bound. We got posters in here drinking the kool aid after a series against Niagara. This is not a team that is going to realistically compete for Omaha, but I suppose we should be happy that maybe they won’t be as bad as we thought. Expectations around this program have seriously fallen.

I mean its the bare minimum after one of the worst seasons in program history. You can't expect anything after a season like thatSo we should be good enough for a field of 64 teams that this program competed in for 44 consecutive seasons?
We had some nice seasons with Dimare but none of those teams were ever serious contenders to make a run in Omaha. We seem light years away from even those teams talent wise.
Every single one of Dimare's teams were serious contenders to make Omaha and should of made Omaha with the amount of talent that we had. When it mattered most the pitching came through but the big bats like Yoyo, Kayfus, Bayou Burke, Levenson, Cyr did not come through. We lost to Texas... a team that threw a player that went 9 innings for the first time in his career and struck out majority of our lineup. You have short term memory my friend. So we should be good enough for a field of 64 teams that this program competed in for 44 consecutive seasons?

I can't agree with you on this one.So we should be good enough for a field of 64 teams that this program competed in for 44 consecutive seasons?

And as far as this statement, it's really too early to tell.I said serious contenders to make a run IN Omaha. None of those teams had the juice to go all the way. I agree we had enough talent to get in if the ball bounced our way enough, and my point is I don’t think this years team even has enough talent to even get into a position where maybe they can get lucky.
