1st Round Streak: Who Steps up in 2018?

Chad Thomas is 6 or 7th round.

Idk if he has a 10 sack season or close to it he will go in the top 3 rounds. I just saw a Michigan state dl Malik McDowell go as a top 50 pick when he only had like 20-30 tfl and 7.5 sacks in his career

McIntosh is the guy. Norton would have to test well because 1st round nose tackles are very rare. Thomas needs a dominant pass rush move and major production to even sniff the 1st round. Agree with Andrew he's a late rounder at this point. I'll wait and see with Delaney.

He will have good sack numbers, but that will be attributed to the system. Look what Kool did with Michael Sam.

You got to think about it chad thomas has elite de size to at a legit 6'6 270 pounds. You add that with another productive season that would make him a top 100 pick

It's all about perception. If we have a great season then everybody's stock will jump up. Why do you think all these Alabama scrubs keep getting drafted so high and then bust in the league?

With the defense we're going to have next season Norton, McIntosh, and Chad have the best chance. Delaney has the size (6'1" 190lbs) that NFL teams are looking for. it just depends on how much of an impact he has next year. Walton will have to have a monster year to bust into the 2nd round.

Our perception is obviously very low right now. Our players are getting disrespected by every single NFL team. As soon as that changes we'll be back to having multiple 1st round picks on a yearly basis.

I'll break it down to current draft potential to best case scenario if players maximize potential on eligible players

Rb:
M. Walton 5-10 (210)
Right now mid round guy but runs hard can make you miss and if works on long speed and has more big runs he can get up to 2nd round maybe late first if tears up the combine best runner in ACC for sure.

Wr:
B. Berrios 5-9 (185)
Currently un drafted but great athlete quick fast but if work on route running more and gets into end zone more than year can get drafted because will light up the combine can jump almost 40 inch vert and 4.5 or maybe mid 4.4 40 yard dash guy so I would say best case 5th or 6th round on potential.

Te:
C. Herndon 6-4 (245)
Right now would say mid round guy based on production but he's due for a great year being the feature guy and is a great athlete nfl size and fast can run like a running back when gets the ball just has to keep working on route running already decent blocker so I would say best case 2nd round.

OL:
K. McDermott 6-4 (310)
Right now late round guy but really improved based on end of last year and this spring and dye for a good season working against the athletes at defensive end on our team helped him vs speed rushers he can be trusted now on blind side but in pros would be right tackle because shorter arms but best case for him 4th or 5th round

T. Darling 6-4 (315)
Right now undrafted but has great size can be great run blocker if keep working on strength but doesn't have the highest ceiling best case 6th or 7th rounds as run blocker

DL.

R. Macintosh 6-4 (290)
Right now mid round but have high ceiling great athlete can run due for great year very disruptive for DT quick can run long arms can get off blocks with ease for running lanes if keeps working on pass rushing moves can become great pass rusher this year and best case late 1st or 2nd round

K. Norton 6-3 (310)
Mid round right now but great nfl size very quick for size can hold point of attack as nose tackle great run defender and penetrator can keep working on pass rushing moves and best case late 1st or 2nd round

G. Willis 6-4 (290)
Now undrafted but has tons of potential just has to show more on tape will get plenty opportunities this year as 3rd DT but is quick can get off blocks decently can run has to keep working on pass rush moves if becomes good pass rusher best case 3rd or 4th round

C. Thomas 6-5 (270)
Mid round now but has great nfl size and can really run down defenders and hold the point of attack on runs and has long arms so if can keep working on pass rushing moves more and become great pass rusher will become complete DE and best case is late 1st or 2nd round

DB

D. Delaney 6-1 (190)
Mid round based on potential but great nfl size can run good ball skills just has to show can stick to big time fbs guys in coverage if can do that best case 2nd or 3rd round

I see 9 or 10 guys drafted next year but the year in the 2018 draft fairly decent. But the year after in 2019 draft will be money with guys like Homer, richards, st. Louis, cager, Jackson, quarterman, pickney, McCloud, dean, Johnson, redwine. Multiple very high round guts trust me and some surprises.

Could have both DTs go first round. Walton and dee delaney could go with strong years. Walton is like an even all around good rb. No real strong strength no real bad weakness.

Our best shots is Kendrick Norton and Dee Delaney depending on his year.

Next year is predicted to be a deep 3-tech DT draft; Gerald and RJ would be foolish to go next year when the year after they can definitely rise into late 1st consideration

Chris and KC are mid round guys

Everybody else are late round picks

Norton has best chance. Herndon is my dark horse. But no one right now is even close. Someone needs a breakout senior season even to get second round grade. Good news is numbers still will be there. But we're not taking on Bama any time soon.

It'll actually be chris herndon

This; with the unprecedented success of our TE's since 98, Herndon will be next in line if he has anything remotely like Njoku's season this past year. New England has already set forth what it means to have a great TE and we all know the NFL is a copy cat league. We have the blue print of producing great TEs.

Delaney could be first round if he shows the same stuff in D-I that he showed at Charleston.

(1) Chad Thomas
(2) Kendrick Norton
(3) RJ McIntosh

My money is on Major 9...although the other dudes are great players as well.

Our interior defensive linemen are not premier players. They are savored here mostly because they look awesome compared to a decade's worth of predecessors, and because the offseason is cherished territory for Happy Adjusters. We're right on Alabama and Ohio State's heels, unless you pay attention to where their guys are being drafted. I got a big kick out of the thread here counting 7th round picks as not much different than guys in the green room two nights earlier. Coin flip.

There were countless highlight plays shown during the draft of opposing offenses facing the Canes. Norton and Kendrick looked ordinary every time. Contrast to when Alabama's defense was on screen. Even when a play succeeded it did so despite somebody caving in the offensive line. Alabama swarms in waves and they get drafted early in waves.

We have a great attacking style again. Still lots of band aids required. Once the caliber of player (hopefully) matches the aggression, the adjusters can take a rest and we'll have multiple defenders selected on days one and two. Big defenders. These little guys are mostly cute. That's what restricted Ohio State lately. They've had defensive backs galore and some linebackers but a comparative decline up front. Not to mention an awful quarterback in Little Game Barrett.

Chad Thomas has the best chance to extend the tiny streak. Everything tends to drift back to the beginning. I don't see it happening but you can't completely discount a guy who was rated so highly at one point. Edge guys are valued so highly that even a player like Charles Harris made it into the first round despite flunking the edge metrics via pedestrian jump numbers and shuttle numbers at the combine. He did improve sharply at his pro day but that's typical.

If our recruiting class remains in the top handful, and then it happens again and again, we can start legitimately forecasting first round guys in a few years. Simpletons scoff at recruiting rankings just like simpletons scoff at preseason ratings. Outliers are dummy gold while margin for error tags along with all those 4 and 5 star guys.

I want maybe one guy per decade who is a True Cane. Otherwise find the freaks. My grandmother has been dead for nearly 40 years but she could draft Njoku.

Dee Delaney's numbers are going to be off the charts this year with our front 7. My money is on him.
