have you dummies forgot last season? we started off slow and picked up steam last season, too.

only issue is that this year didn't pick up where last season left off. we didn't field a GREAT defense by the end of last year, but they had definitely made some progress. can't start every season off from scratch.

The 73 yard TD came when Perryman was on the field and noticeably limping and out of his element. If he was healthy for that 1 play or any other LB was in they likely would've had 5-10 yards and a 1st down, but certainly not a TD. Big play that completely changed the game early on. Whoever decided Perryman should be in should get their head checked.

You could tell. As soon as he tried to plant to cut back he fell

Idk about you guys but the All orange unis kinda liked them a lot tonight

You do realize this was almost a completely new unit right?

That hit Bush made . . . . holy crap!

And THEN he pops up and trots off the field, and wasn't ABOUT to let it be known he was hurt.

That's balls. Great big, fuzzy man-balls!

With the exception of Morris, I was really proud to see progression.

2 completely different units. Are you saying that you expected this D, w/out its best linebacker, best defensive tackle, and experienced pass rusher from the previous season to continue where it left off?

We lost a TON of experience in addition to those other names. Not great talents, some just JAGs, but still, a TON of real gametime experience. Ojomo had become a pretty reliable rotational player. Regis and Marcus Robinson played a lot of minutes in their careers. Jojo Nicholas was valuable as a CB/S. RRA was an overrated JAG but still better than Kacy Rodgers at least.

Also lost Andrew Smith.

I don't get this comment. No **** you can't start from scratch every season but this season was full of new starters so of course your starting from scratch. Anyone who has a clue will no it will carry over because we'll be returning almost everyone.

Negged for not thinking this comment through

Porter and Robinson made a huge difference in the DL. Porter more than Robinson, but wow it looks like a different defense with Porter back.

yeah, i know we have a lot of "new" guys on the defensive side of the ball. but a portion of those were around last year. they shouldn't have been clueless as a unit for 6 or 7 games before figuring things out.

but in reality, i don't even buy into the "we have new guys" argument. i don't think it has to do with the players. i don't want to turn this into a players vs scheme thread, but it's pretty obvious that d'onofrio has made some changes in our defense lately. starting with the notre dame game, we started turning to the blitz more often. fast forward a couple weeks to last night, and it seemed like we were mixing blitzes in very well and causing pressure on the qb (yes, i know porter was back). all the sudden the defense is playing better, and we're giving all the credit to players showing up when, IMO, it has to do with the slight adjustments d'ono made to make our D a little more agressive. so let's give credit there.

but if you can understand why i said what i wrote above, you'll see why i'm saying it's stupid that it took 6 or 7 games for the D to start rolling. d'onofrio waited half way through the season to start making adjustments. i think the defense is playing much better now, but we can't afford to have 7 games to thrown out the window.

They probably held him out as a precaution

Bush being a competitor, was understandably ****ed.

On TV it looked like the kid was crying when they told him he couldn't come back in...LOVE THAT!

He Was!! and that's the type of intensity and passion this team hasn't had or shown in a long time...

These are the types of players we've should have been recruiting every year.

All the crap about us not blitzing was never true. We blitzed a LOT from game 1 onwards. Safeties, LBs, CBs. Everyone got a chance or 2. Just never got any pressure. And yesterday, when we got pressure, it wasn´t off of blitzes.
