If you'll go back to the Maryland game three years earlier - Golden's first game - you'll see that this technique was taught back then.

Keep watching, and you'll see them running to a spot, not with the receiver.

Great scheme, great coaching.
 
anyone who thinks we're gonna be good this year...just watch a few minutes of the defense. still have no idea how anyone expects this defense to be good. there is a lot of talent but the philosophy/scheme is putrid.

there are several guys streaking wide open on every passing play. these coaches are in way over their heads

Looks like it was Man defense all the way. He must be didnt trust his speed and didnt have help over the top. all in all that questionable. they looked confused all game. check out the :56 mark Rayshawn Jenkins effort is **** poor not only does he have the wrong read, he doesnt even give the effort to get his man.
 
all i can do is watch and laugh at this point. it is pathetic.

they try to blitz and bring guys that are 10 yards off the LOS. get no where near the QB.

yep. I'm 100% certain that this staff has turned it all around in the offseason. losing AJ Highsmith and Shayon will help this defense jump into the top 10.

My only hope is that they cut all this ******* zone bull**** out and just let these kids play ball. They sure as **** can't be trusted to put them in the right position. Not even ******* close.

that's not a bust on howard. many many plays are our cbs up on the wr and then at the snap they turn and run 15 yards, leaving 10 yard outs open all day long.

The second worst thing about this defense, after it's utter putrescence, is that so many posters now have unwarranted, bulletproof confidence know what they heck they're talking about, from scheme to usage to personnel, on a scientific level.

The first can be rectified by firing people.

The second will prove incurable, I'm afraid.

they wont. we are going to see the EXACT same ****. these coaches are clowns. and are completely lost.

it literally makes me sick to watch this BS defense.

The one advantage they have with respect to Petrino is that it's so early that whatever adjustments we've made aren't yet clear. We are guaranteed to bring some new defensive adjustments to that game that aren't on tape much if at all. Even in the spring we were bringing double A gap blitzes which we've never used.

One could argue that he's got 3 years worth of tape to look at but that's the blessing (moreso curse, but I digress) of this defense. It's not exactly clear what we're trying to do so you can't really assume that we'll do much of anything. Every year seems different.
