ALPHA DOG: MIAMI COMMIT DEREON COLEMAN

It has been an offseason to remember for Orlando (Fla.) Jones three-star Dereon Coleman, who was named MVP of the quarterbacks at an Under Armour camp in Miami last month and has been a regular top performer on the 7-on-7 circuit.

On a day where no one was really able to jump out and separate themselves from the rest of the pack, Coleman turned in the most consistent performance of the bunch. He's a natural passer with a rapid release that can create some of the best torque in the class as he hits his marks with authority.

Coleman, who currently ranks as the nation's No. 20 quarterback prospect for 247Sports, certainly wasn't perfect on Saturday as there were a few misfires, but he had his moments at each station and never faded.

At the conclusion of the camp, Coleman was presented with an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals for his efforts and his overall body of work as he's coming off a junior campaign in which he completed 72.3 percent of his passes for 3,412 yards and 28 touchdowns while posting a 14-1 record.

A long-time Miami commit, there's plenty of reason for the folks in Coral Gables to be excited about Coleman and what he can be in a Shannon Dawson offense as he gets the ball out fast and accurately while evoking no shortage of confidence.

However, where the evaluation does get a little tricky is when it comes to trying to project him towards Sundays. Coleman isn't the biggest individual and owns more of a slender frame. He does appear to have added some good mass in the past year or so, but he didn't measure or test on Saturday. Despite the less-than-ideal build, Coleman could very well end up being an outlier as he can absolutely rip it.
