You only get so many chances

If you look at past coaches in the last 20 years, they have plateaued at year 3. Radio had his best season at 9-4 in year 3. After that, went south. Golden, 9-4 also. Then went south. Richt was a year earlier. He won 10 games in year 2 and then went south. Danny Miaz never plateaued.

Year 4 will be crucial to the program under Mario. If he has plateaued at year 3, then the football program and the fans need to accept the fact that we are not going to be players. Not that we have been. I am not even saying pre 2003.

We compete for a good bowl game. Every once in a while we compete for an ACC championship. The issue is that the big money boosters who control the hiring and firing are not football people. They are loyalist. There isn't a football person in the building.

I am not sure where to put the blame here. But making bad game day decisions and decisions period, isn't all on Cristobal. Bad decisions have been made over the entire century 2000 - present with this program. H***, include baseball in that equation also.

It is the UM board and the money people. There isn't a win at all cost attitude like Alabama, OSU, Georgia, and some of the other top places. Maybe Cristobal improves next year. I will be pulling for him and the team. Like DMoney said, we are not going anywhere. I just lower my expectations so the let down isn't as bad.

I’ll start with the stench:

Cincinnati Bengals historically level bad on defense this year.

Scored at least 30 in every game outside of the GA Tech game.

Now the positive:

But - we ALL said 10 wins was a successful season - so we cannot backtrack now. We didn’t lose to any terrible teams in conference play, and we have the opportunity to win 11 games which would be absolutely spectacular.

We have a secondary personnel issue - the DBs were the known weakness of the team coming into the season and we saw it play out vs Cuse and almost every other game this season. We bring in studs at DB via portal and HS and that problem is fixed.

Mario will handle the DB situation, just as he has at every other position in the program. I’m more interested in seeing how Shannon Dawson moves - will he leave off the Cam Ward success or will he stay - suppose this depends on which schools come after him.

Not going anywhere?

Speak for yourself.

I’m done with this **** show.

I’ve given enough to this program, especially over the last 2 years. Enough is enough.

I’m walking away from this **** heap. I sugggest you do the same.
no you're not...

but at least give us some nice info on your way out though if you're leaving...

Season win totals at FanDuel at the beginning of the year was 9.5 wins, they beat it. Went from 5-7, 7-5 (bowl games aren't really relevant except for getting extra practice) and now 10-2. That's a good trajectory. My keys to the season were to beat rivals, win the conference, learn more ball and have fun. 3/4 is not bad. Will it be difficult to sustain? Of course, but that's why we have MC to replenish the talent.

We will never be successful with Mario as coach, he was a horrible hire, I said it at the time and I stand by it. He will get us mediocre results, we will never take the next step with him as HC. Unfortunately, the Columbus mafia got their guy and we are stuck with him for a while. I just have to learn to stop caring about this crappy team.

Good, bad, or indifferent, The reality is we wouldn’t have gotten the investment in the program without Mario. I still think it’s a “time will tell” situation with him.

problem players or coaching ?

As far as not quite being elite? Both

I like Mario. I’ve been called an apologist on this board. I think we get in the top 15 consistently with him.

But the reason we aren’t in playoff this year is coaching… we were clearly good enough even with a bad defense to be in the playoff.

How is the jury still out on Dawson after a season like this?

Sorry to tell yall, but this offense's success isn't all Ward. The play designs are good enough that he's often throwing to open guys. He ain't out there making magic every play.

Dawson dials it up.
Can't fluke into being number 1 in every category like that. Especially considering the talent at WR really isn't great. Solid for sure but there's not a day 1 and probably not even a day 2 pick at WR on this team.

I would also add that based on that statement - Guidry didn't fluke his way to the stats he had at Marshall in 2022. Something is just off here or something got figured out that he can't shake.

Something is being done right when you have seasons like this as a coordinator.

I've been banned from this website more times than I can count. The biggest reason is that I'm smarter than most of you. I mope when you guys are drinking kool-aid, and you find reasons to ban me for it. But I end up being right every single time. I called 7 wins in 2023 and was dead right. I called 9 wins prior to 2024 and was off by a game.

The other thing I do is I don't get as low as you guys when we lose. It's not the end of the **** world, yall. We weren't winning the natty this year anyway.

We can easily build on what we did this year and make the ACCCG next year. It's just going to depend on what they do this offseason, whether we have the money, and whether our money people are willing to spend it. Because it's going to cost a fortune. We need a ton of starters on every level of the defense. We need another top quarterback. We need a top 5 high school class.

That stuff won't be cheap. But if our money people want it, it's there to be had.

The core of this year's team - Mario's first two recrutiing classes - were only freshman and sophomores this year. Stack another top 5 class on top of that and add some starters out of the portal and there's no reason we shouldn't be contending for the ACC in 2025. But again, we'll have to see what the NIL people want to do and how badly they want to win.
This you?

Exactly. You can’t run around saying Cam was making Dawson look good and then criticize Cam for missing wide open options

Doesn’t work that way

Dawson is above average…There are times he strays from the run, and I hope he realizes that now that Ward is gone. Martinez coulda had 185 in his sleep (partially on Mario because he is splitting time which is a joke in your biggest game of the season). But overall, Ward made the difficult look easy and doubtful the next guy can do that.

But your point is taken. Dawson is doing his job here and deserves a ton of credit for this season as a whole.
