what's the play vs. FSU... concentrate on shutting down the Run and Travis Runs, and take our risk with the WR's??? maybe assign JW or Kam to just drill Coleman all game long??
FSU WRs are a lot better than Clemson or any other team we’ve faced this year. Coleman is scary good. We will need to do what we do best (stop the run) and try to force them into longer down and distance plays. Keep the plays in front of us do not allow their WRs to run freely.

We will also have to account for their TE Bell, who is involved and has 22 catches for 291 yards. In comparison, Coleman has 31 catches for 472 yards.

It will take a total effort from our D as they did against A&M and Clemson. Eliminate their big plays and make some of our own and we will have a shot.

I know this sucks as a mindset but that ain't his job. His job is to win games here, now, doing what works here and now.
He's not at Miami to maybe win games for an NFL coach at some possible point in the future.
That is his job but not his only charge. Mario is recruiting against the Larry Johnson Srs. and Brent Venerables who’ve both coached a number of highly regarded DL and have them on speed dial to not only attest to they won a lot of games but helped them become 1st rounders.

Mario didn’t go get Jason Taylor because he has a track record of developing kids. It was name recognition and he could tell/show them what they needed to do to get to the next level and actually be good at the next level. Because that’s what 4 and 5 star kids care about. And if we’re going head to head for a DE with an Ohio State we definitely should have a plan to help make them what NFL teams desire or we’ll lose out everytime.

I think you take away the run of Travis and RB and make him beat you in the air. H got to get Travis on the ground. Maybe by then he will have a few more injuries cause of all the hits he takes each week.

Ultimately that will solely depend on what kind of opportunities they get.
If they are offered HC jobs money won't matter. If they are offered coordinator jobs money will absolutely matter. JMO

Ground either get HC offers after just 1 year here in my opinion.

Guidry has a little bit of a checkered past as well so he is likely not getting a HC offer unless it’s fcs level in Louisiana which would be a step backwards in my opinion

Didn’t Canesinsight do a podcast with a fan who’s an X’s and O’s specialist where he specifically said he doesn’t like the 3-3-5? Judging by this game it seems like LT, Bain and JHH are better fits for that then a 4-2-5.
The adjustment was made to 335 was because of injuries. We also used DT’s at de because of the de depth. If you need oriif to how bad things are go look at our de snaps. We weee using lb’s in a 50 front on the edge to help with de depth. More lb’s on the field

Pick your poison. I agree that forcing FSU to beat you through the air is the better choice. From a morale perspective, getting hit with 40 yard completion isn't as devastating as constantly giving up first downs on 3rd and 12 because Travis runs for a first down. Taking away the run also gives our top defensive player, Bain, an opportunity to do what he does best.

There is no worse way to lose than a slow death on the ground. A demoralizing game on the ground might lose you the next week, too.

Just my opinion and experience.

I think the winning strategy is going to be in Cristobals wheelhouse. It's the same way teams beat Oregon back in the Kelly days. Turn it into a slow, grinding game where the other teams offense can't get into a rhythm. It's not fun to watch but reality is they are going to win a shootout if it turns into that kind of game because they have a better QB and WRs. We have the advantage at OL. We need 8-9 minute drives on offense. Then on defense force them to beat you with a big pass play. Bring all the pressure from one side so that Travis has to run left (like Cribby said) and throw across his body. And even if they hit a couple passes and score a TD quickly, if we respond with another 9 minute drive ending in a TD, it's going to cool them off.

I feel like that scenario for our offense could play out, but I don't think we will game plan for it. Just my gut feeling. Maybe we decide to grind it out late in the game, but I think we'll try to score points initially.

On defense, maybe we employ a modified Clemson approach where we're in less man because of Travis's propensity and ability to run. I'm going to watch some film over the next week or so and I will develop my thoughts a little better.

ohh and also, don't get beat deep behind our safeties... cough 5 and 20.....

I just asked an ACC AC "what makes a player sign with your school, tell me 4-5 things" he asked if he can just answer money for all of them.

As someone that is around extremely high level 12-25 year old athletes in a variety of sports every single day here is what they care about:
Money / gifts (swag, dinners, cleats/sneakers, flights etc)
(Social Media) Attention
Making Parent / Uncle Roscoe happy
What you can do for them (1st rounders), not what you did for you (Taylor's career)

You really think a 17 year old has seen Jason Taylor play football? Unless they think he's Vin Diesel they have never seen the guy until they get on campus.

Mario hired JT because he was a pipeline to STA players and hopefully will continue to be. His job is to keep Saban, Dabo, Kirby, etc away from STA because of "relationships" having been the STA DC. Hope the HC and AD really like him, etc.

Same reason Devin Bush Sr was at Michigan. Biff Poggi was at Mich. The reason Freeze and Malzahn got their initial college breaks: they were tied to HS 5-stars. Until he becomes an elite on field coach / developer (he can tag himself to Bain which is great)

You have to force Travis out of the pocket to the left . If you give him the option of running and sitting in the pocket he’ll eat you alive. You must take one away.

Need to send some 5th string DL out there to target him and knock him out of the game

I think the average fan could easily be caught up in what you label the defense.

Functionally, we were not much different than what we were already doing. All we did was remove the boundary DE and replace with a LB (Wes played this primarily). On other words, we didn't look different in terms of front--it was just a personnel change. The main difference was our flexibility in coverage. The real reason why we stopped the run was the synergy of the bear front and playing Cover 1 in the back.

We didn't even run one traditional 33 stack front, lol. All we did was run our regular bear and 50 stuff with 33 personnel. It was a great idea to get our best 11 on the field. At the end of the day, we were able to stop the run because we played defense with two middle fingers extended--we ran a bear front with Cover 1 in the back. We told our corners that they were on their own and we asked Klubnik to beat us.

Regardless of running bear front, cover 1 with 33 or 42 personnel doesnt necessarily change how you stop the run. We were just able to be a bit more flexible in coverage with the boudnary DE replaced with a guy like Wes.

question. didn't we use three DTs (56, 44 and 81 and their backups) more often than in prior games?

how about the reverse? stop their WRs and make them run the ball

I think you have to hit Travis early and often. The boy body is made out of toilet paper. Come third quarter maybe them hits take effect.

Play a 2 deep shell, take away the deep and immediate passing. See if Travis has the patience to Dink and donk all the way down field. They live off the big plays.

But key to success in that game, I believe we have to pressure with 4 DL without a lot of blitzing. Clemson DL ate, I believe our DL can do the same.
