Rumph could be a good secondary coach but he is not a good recruiter. After last year recruiting class was in, I remember reading in one of his interviews him admitting he needs to change some of the ways he was recruiting kids. I guess he hasn't made positive change yet.

Adrian Colbert says hello.

Adrian Colbert was probably the fastest guy on the roster at 6'+ with good agility and a great mindset for corner. There are a lot of coaches who would've had success with Adrian Colbert. The fact that he did nothing at Texas is an indictment of Texas' program, not some proof that Rumph is a miracle worker. Corn Elder was a great college football player. The other CBs we've had have been OK, but certainly nothing at all to make me think that Rumph is this fantastic DB technician who's making chicken salad out of chicken **** as some like to portray. There were lots of times the secondary just didn't get the job done against the Wisconsin and Pitts of the world, let alone Clemson/Bama level programs. You can debate the reasons why but the bottom line is we need a gigantic talent infusion, and we just whiffed on a ton of South Florida studs 2 years in a row.

These dudes keep trying to portray Colbert as one of Jerry's Kids. That dude got worked over by Chuck ******* when he decided to dump on all the vets and go with a youth movement to try to save his job. The fact that Colbert plays in the NFL should tell these dopes that he's always had ability.
Amen to that.

Ive watched Colbert a lot this year and he flat out belongs in the NFL. People brushed it off because SF was garbage but they had good safeties. Their defense started playing really well and Colbert jumped off the screen. He’s a beast.

thats true. But Colbert only played because of injury. He didn't beat the guys ahead of him out in practice or anything. Just think that should be mentioned.

But hey whatever way you get the job doesn't matter if you keep it and never give it back. Idk if Colbert will definitely be the starter next year, but he will get a starting amount of reps.

So yall not going to give credit to rumph even for his coaching? Y’all crazy man

No one in this thread has said that. Everyone is flogging him for his recruiting ability, not his coaching ability.

If Rumph deserves to be fired for recruiting, what about the DL coach who has a total of 3 DT commits in a three year span? The one who took over a team loaded with young DL talent and in year three has a current roster with only a single SDE?

How about the coach who is choosing to bring in just one LB when there are only two proven Miami caliber LB's on the roster (both Junior's)?

When you look at the defensive talent brought in since Richt was hired, Rumph probably ranks first or second in recruiting.

I am not advocating for Rumph as he's an obvious recruiting liability but he's clearly not the only problem.

Most agree that he's a good Xs and Os coach. But recruiting is a huge part of a college coaches job. You can't afford to have too many weak salesmen on your coaching staff.

Because He saved the class with Briggs and Chatman.

View attachment 57219 maybe not all hope is lost. Campbell commented on Chatfield's Miami pic with a U emoji.

Ill remain cautiously optimistic as I have been with him for some time now. Nothing hes done or said has ever led me to pencil him into the class like many here did for some reason, but I dont think this fight is over either. I dont see Campbell as the type of kid who would commit without taking all of his visits and I would b shocked if we didnt get an OV from him.

You mean the one who has produced multiple 1st rounders? SMH come on now. We're lucky as **** to have coach Kool.

Linebacker recruiting/coaching I'm all with you, on the other hand. How you pass up Xavier Peters and Nick Bonitto but you have enough room for a camp special at CB like Nigel Bethel.... that's just dumb.

Hope they didn’t sell him playing time. DeAndre Baker coming back...

This is why you can't hire certain people.

Because if it doesn't work out, they're IMPOSSIBLE TO FIRE.

There are people who are gonna be dug in for Rumph, defending him to the teeth no matter what the facts are. But we've seen this before.

The "whataboutism" with Rumph and Kool is becoming wayyyy too common a defense of Rumph around here- and I'm a guy not nearly as universally down on Rumph around here as many are. That argument goes out the window immediately when we're constantly being force fed that recruiting is allllllll about "relationships".......and then Rumph whiffs on all these kids he knew since conception.

It'll be interesting if Rattler contradicts this news in a few days. We shall see.

Rattler's days around here might be numbered lol. If Campbell signs elsewhere he's gonna be the whipping boy, just watch.

Would you welcome Josh Jobe's uncle on this board?

Two things you got mixed up, me for anybody's whipping boy and Tyson for Jobe...

Objectively, Rumph did do a good job with Colbert. Just cause it doesn't fit a narrative doesn't mean it isn't the case.

Still not enough to judge Rumph as a CB coach. Some good and bad signs. We'll learn more this year.

Pointing to Colbert as any sort of proof of anything is ridiculous. The guy got a raw deal at Texas. He was a big kid with a great attitude who had sprinter’s speed. Rumph is a competent football coach. He’s done what any competent coach would have done here. He’s definitely been without any question a colossal failure of epic proportions as a recruiter. If you think it’s too early to judge that then you’re not paying attention.

No doubt UGA has been telling Tyson Campbell that if they had him on the team they would have won a national championship. Thats tough to argue with, because its not exactly wrong. Their one cb was getting his *** worked all game, and gave up that final TD because he didn't reroute the WR at all. 2 of the 3 schools we are competing with for him were just in the National Championship that either team could have won. And the school that is the biggest threat to us is UGA who was an inch away. I mean all uga has to do is show Campbell tape of their dbs getting worked, and how he could be THE difference maker. Thats tough to battle with.

Having said all that **** all of you, and Pete too, he's going to be a Cane.

If you’re talking about the final play, it’s absolutely wrong. It was a horrible deep cover 2 play call by Korby.

The CB passed off to FS who wasn’t there. BC the CB probably saw the spot WR coming across wide open

The slot WR and RB came across middle w no one within 15 yards of them. Either one of them would have gained a first down.

It was a bad play call.

no, you're wrong. Yes it was cover 2. whether or not it was a poor playcall doesn't matter. It is the CBs job to reroute and not give the WR a free release up the sideline like he did. Because then you don't give the safety a chance to make the play. Now obviously the safety stayed on the wr attacking the middle a second too long, but if the cb gets his hands on the wr and doesn't let him go untouched down the sideline, the safety might have been able to make the play, or the qb might not have thrown it in the first place.

secondly, No the cb did not see the wr coming across wide open, he was trailing the wr going up the sideline the entire time. He payed absolutely no attention to the other wrs, and whether a guy was coming open or not, it was already too late cause he already failed at his job

Jobe and Tyson are t even close. Tyson has handled his recruitment like a pro regardless of where he picks. Jobe is a punk. Can’t get mad a Tyson if he chooses what he thinks is a better spot at UGA. Some of you fools need to grow up and realize it’s just football.
