You are spot-on, no need to apologize. Some people fail to realize the powerful role of upbringing and social reinforcement in certain parts of the country, which is not based on race per se, but on how entire communities support the local schools and institutions.

While my family is from St. Louis, one of my uncles (by marriage) was from Indiana. Supporting IU and ND was almost religious in Indiana (and pretty much is with ND).

Not sure if you remember him, but Miami hoops had Joel Warren back in the late 80s. He was the captain of his high school's undefeated team and was a contender for Indiana Mr. Basketball.
I played football in the 90’s in Indianapolis, not many liked notre dame. They are pretentious and don’t want to be part of the big ten nor the state of Indiana. I am sure northern has more supporters but not central and south indiana

Almost every ND fan I know is from or now lives in the Chicagoland area, so the pretentiousness of the fanbase makes sense

I hope I’m dead wrong but Height is JAG. I expect some news this weekend with this.
He's also not even built better than Malik Bryant or even like what Lightfoot might end up being come fall... Like I've said Height has had minimal to no production. And given his build and how we'd use him, I don't think this is a case of us taking a guy who we are confident isn't going to get manhandled against the run type of deal. Like I could understand us wanting to bring in a reliable EDGE player who is older as a Just in case player due to mesidor/Kellys injury history, but that to me isn't a pass rush "specialist" who only has 4 sacks. That to me can be filled just as well by our current unproven but clearly very talented players. Like why not keep Jahfari Harvey if they are so uncomfortable with the numbers at EDGE? Makes zero sense to me. Like the only way that makes sense is if they are unexpectedly losing one of Bain/Mesidor/Alston/Kelly/Wayne. Thats the only way not trying to keep harvey and brining in height makes any lick of sense.... And I still think it's a bad move. Like just do more to keep whichever of those 5 (And I am just assuming its Kelly as it seems most logical).

Yes, but did they not think it was a risk when we were also losing Harvey?

LIke I said I assume this is like Kelly transfering to Auburn or some ****, but I'd rather just try to get him to stay than get height.

I would definitely have preferred Harvey over Height.

The thing with Height is fairly simple:

- someone is leaving but not someone who can be considered quality and Mario just wants to stack up depth

- Height was probably told to pack his **** by USC considering the turnover on defense there

I don't see Kelly transferring and if he does, okay. Nothing about him made me crazy and if he feels like he has a better shot elsewhere, he can go for it. Not a player I would lose sleep over. We have some young talent on the Edge and it's telling that Lightfoot and McConathy are getting reps with the 1s through practice. Plus, I presume Guidry will stick with the Tite/Odd fronts with a LB standing up, because we have enough players that can fill that role.

Mario said hes going for the ACC title..if that is the case..none of those TF DEs should even sniff the field unless we are playing FAMU or Ball State imo. We caught lightening in a bottle with Bain last year.

So if we are really giving Height a serious look...Im guessing the staff is seeing the 4 deep as:

Bain
Messidor
Alston/Kelly/Wayne/Height battling for the 3rd and 4th spot

Thats ACC title level depth. 6 DEs battling for 4 spots and none are true freshmen..And we have to account for injuries so there will be plenty of reps to go around. Im on the same frequency as Mario is with this now.

If we are talking about Gore, Campbell or even Cook, then “great…let’s upgrade the talent.”
If we are talking about Moten or Horton, then “okay whatever…have a nice life.”
If we are talking about JHH or Clark, then “we are f^ked & need to spend big $$$ on a Portal DT.”

EDIT: I interpreted “DL” as “DT”…we have quality depth at DE (albeit a few players are injury prone). We lack talent at DT.

I dont think we have a scenario where Gore and Campbell both are still around after April 13th. One has to go.

My patience is starting to run out on Moten. Didnt we beat out OU for this kid? And he cant even crack the 2 deep yet?? Im not asking for him to be a starter. But **** kid, 2 deep at this stage should absolutely be realistic. Some serious conversations need to be had with him around what our expectations are of him this summer because we are depending on him to be in the 2 deep at some point this year. Especially since Cook sounds like hes a dud.

We cant expect Blount, Scott or Jones to save us at DT as true freshmen in the 2 deep.

Eh, Moten was a mid 3 star recruit. The only guys we signed lower than him were juco Colbie Young and Anez Cooper who is by far the steal of that class.

Something that doesn’t get mentioned much is how Mario sacrificed hiring a staff to prioritize that 2022 class and that class has contributed almost nothing. Cooper has been really good. Bussanthe looks like a solid linebacker and that’s about it. Kelly has contributed at DE but had been hurt/mediocre and Citizen has been injured.
