I agree. Since Mario has been here, I am not impressed with our evaluations. Too many misses and prioritizing kids who didn’t work out and transferred.

Take away Ward and I’m not sure our roster is significantly better than Diaz’s roster. This class should upgrade our roster.
Only 2 real contributors from the 2023 class were two of the three highest rated kids in the class

2024 we got OJ but even that…eval? Guidry himself said he just came to our camp and locked everyone down. So idk. Bell…Dylan Day hopefully?

Not giving up on the 24 class of course but hard to see where it’s gonna come from at the moment

man do I want that Ball kid at RB. Him and Mallory at RB would be ELITE!!!!!

and then obviously you just take Cooper no matter what and figure it out when he gets on campus!!

Youre smoking crack if you don’t think this Oline is significantly better than Diaz. I watched Diaz Olines get driven off the ball by Boston College for Christ sakes

I’ll give you OL being “significantly” better but reread what I said.

Hetherman is very focused on traits and physicality. He wants long, fast guys who test well and can get off blocks. He believes in his ability to develop guys who may be more raw.
So basically more of the same that we’ve always targeted.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing and here’s why - the 2026 LB targets he’s looking for is EXACTLY what we have on the 2025 team. We can see exactly what his development skills can do with the 2026 LBs based on what happens with the 2025 LBs.

And just to make sure I’m on the right path here - @DMoney - what type of kids was Guidry looking to recruit?

Reason I ask is because the Heatherman LB profile sounds a lot like the type of back 7 kid Mario generally wants when he talks about recruiting….

To be Fair we have overhaul the offensive coaching staff twice and the defensive staff three times. The goal is to have kids who can contribute. Look at Clemson they hit on a lot of guys.

I'm happy to hear about Ali. I'd heard weeks ago that we were way behind there. He's local, and we don't seem to have any traction with any higher-ranking LB's. This seems like an important target.
Tape is really interesting. He's raw but I loved the athleticism and playmaking both as a TFL guy (though mostly shooting the gap, more luck than skill maybe?) and in coverage picking off passes and housing them.

While a guy like Simeon Caldwell is ranked 100 spots higher as a taller, slender LB prospect, Ali is a better tackler and playmaker.

I didn't see Ali taking on any OL and then making plays in run support. I know that's rare in HS LB HL, but Pruitt's was full of his destroying a pulling guard and then violently stopping the ball carrier.

I think you hit on the problem. Mario has yet to land on a consistent staff. We all knew Steele and Gattis were hired with very little time available and were likely gone after 1-2 years. Dawson looks good but his real test will be how well he can scheme an offense without the #1 pick in the draft. We don’t have to be the best offense in the country, but we also can’t fall to 65th.

The defensive staffs have remained a mess. And I think that is a bigger problem than the players. We just aren’t developing defensive players. I have a hard time believing that Aguirre, Hayes and Pruitt were all overrated when everyone wanted them. I don’t think we have had the coaches we need to get the best out of our players. Our “blue chip rate” is very good in Mario’s time at UM. But now we need to develop them to play like their rankings.

In spite of that Mario has made progress with at um. He has underachieved also in a lot of people's eyes. He has changed a lot of the culture around. He deserves criticism and respect. But to me at the end of the day if you not winning the natty your season is in a lot of ways a failure.

Fair assessment and I agree. With the amount of $ pumped into the program, he needs to win championships, plain and simple. No other coach in UM history has had this much resources. Hence, my frustration with the lack of talent and development in certain rooms, on defense in particular. In reality, miami should be competing with Texas, Oregon and OSU’s of the world in year 4 talent wise. All those schools are doing it in HS recruiting and the portal.

These Lines alone puts Diaz's lines to shame

Upgrades since Manny -- Offence: QB, WR, OL, RB. Defense: LB (marginal so far)
Better under Manny -- Offense: n/a, Defense: CB, S
Roughly equivalent under Manny: Offense: TE, Defense: DE, DT

We've recruited higher ranked athletes from high school far and away better under Mario. So far, that hasn't translated at DT or even DE outside of Bain 2023. For all their issues, Kiko and Wes were still better than Flagg and Steed, but nowhere near Miami standard.

Manny's defense got worse over time. On paper, Mario's defenses are getting better over time. But not on the field. There really wasn't one good position group on the defense last season. 2025 is really a pivotal year, Hetherman needs to put it all together.

Are we talking HS recruiting here? Because if so as of NOW both of them have sucked *** at recruiting HS QBs and I would actually give the nod to Manny there as TVD was atleast playable one year unlike Mario’s HS QBs

Manny had 2 1st round DEs but ssomehow that is roughly equivalent to the 0 guys Mario had drafted. The best way to prop Mario up is to post stupid **** about Manny. When we stop comparing our current situation to dog **** we are truly byke.
