I'm glad not to see Tyler Williams' name mentioned among the WR's specified.

I think part of the disappointment from some about the class so far is tied to our lack of traction with an elite outside WR1 who can separate as a route runner, bring premier RAC ability, and stretch the field vertically, especially given what we're seeing from Smith at OSU and Williams at Alabama. Our WR haul may still end up as very good, but it sounds like we'll have to wait another year to try to get that Jeremiah Smith, Dakorien Moore-level receiver.

A DB class with Pickett, Hanks, Antoine, Merritt, and Stubbs would be an absolute grand slam, though, and provide a much-needed infusion of premier talent in the secondary.

Ultimately, the portal QB we're able to land -- assuming we prioritize one -- will be the most important player acquisition of the offseason. Closing strong on the trail and landing a top-tier portal QB to take the reins from Ward would provide plenty of cause for continued excitement.

I hope I am. But in order to get into the Top 5, we have to get to at least 290-295 points. UGA right now has the #5 class, and they have 293. Could kids flip from those Top 5 schools? Sure. So there can be some movement. But I just don't see getting quite that high.

Let's do this as an exercise. Let's say we keep every kid we currently have committed, and we add this haul, which I think we can all agree would be absolutely insane and probably not very likely:

DJ Pickett
Vernell Brown III
Jarquez Carter
Ben Hanks
Kellen Wiley

That's 27 commits........and puts us at 287.77 points. Still not enough to get into the Top 5, in all likelihood. Even adding Elijah Griffin to that puts us at 295. Probably right at the cusp of the Top 5.

So I don't doubt Mario. There isn't a soul on this board who wanted this guy (nary a hint of Diddy, btw) more than me, and it's because of what he does on the trail. But it's just a math problem at this point. So, if I had to bet, I would say we do not get into the top 5, and #6 is probably the ceiling. JMO. I'd be more than happy to be wrong in December.
Is OSU in that top 5? Because if we get Carter that would reduce there average and ranking.

It's been a while, so it's time to empty the recruiting notebook for the Bank. Let's go position-by-position:

- Luke Nickel (Alpharetta, GA) is locked in at quarterback and is having a good senior season. I continue to expect Miami to monitor the Portal and potentially add a proven signal caller.

- RB Girard Pringle (Seffner, FL) is committed and wowing the staff with his combination of speed, quickness and toughness. As we've been reporting, I don't see a second back in the class unless something changes.

- WRs Josh Moore (West Broward) and Daylyn Upshaw (Phenix City, AL) are committed and Miami is happy with both. Malachi Toney (American Heritage) decommitted but remains in play. The biggest name is Vernell Brown III (Orlando) and Miami will continue to push there.

- The staff is ecstatic with the senior film for Brock Schott (Leo, IN) and Luka Gilbert (Cincinnati). They believe they have an elite haul there.

- One name drawing particular buzz on the OL- SJ Alofaituli (Las Vegas). After watching his senior film, some in the building believe he is the best OL in the entire nation. You don't know for sure until he gets here, but I get the sense he is in the Rueben Bain, Francis Mauigoa, Elija Lofton category as an instant impact player.

- DE Herbert Scroggins III (Savannah) is locked in and Miami loves what he brings at JACK linebacker. Strong, productive, bendy, and plays hard with high-end intangibles. DE Hayden Lowe (Los Angeles) is considered a first round-type talent and Miami feels good about its momentum with the USC commit. Keep an eye on that one.

- The Canes are very happy with the senior film for DT commits Mykah Newton (Newberry, FL) and Donta Simpson (Chaminade). The primary target for a flip is Ohio State commit Jarquez Carter (Newberry). He is a major priority. I expect Elijah Griffin (Savannah) to commit to Georgia, but Miami will keep working there.

- Gavin Nix (IMG) and Ezekiel Marcelin (Central) are leading their respective defenses as expected. The Canes would like to add one more. The names to watch: Kellen Wiley (Seffner, FL) and Ohio State commit TJ Alford (Vero Beach, FL).

- The two biggest names to watch, at DB and in general, are DJ Pickett (Riverview, FL) and Ben Hanks (Miami). The Canes are pushing hard for both and there is movement. Jaboree Antoine (New Iberia, LA) suffered a season-ending injury, but should recover fully. He is visiting in a couple weeks and was having an outstanding senior year.

- There are a few names I wanted to highlight on the current team. One guy who isn't talked about externally but is considered a big-time player inside the building is Matthew McCoy. Some feel he is the best NFL prospect on the line. Some young names who are starting to emerge: JoJo Trader, Ny Carr and Armondo Blount. Elija Lofton and Jordan Lyle already have big roles, but those roles will increase. And keep an eye out for a guy who has been out with injury but is finally cleared: S Isaiah Thomas (Clearwater, FL). Excited to see what he looks like now that he's healthy.

You may want to rephrase what you said about young Mr. Thomas.

The fan base is desperate for any positive news at DB and he’ll be ready to contribute positively in the spring. He’s played very little football for almost two years.

@DMoney any word how Washington has transitioned to CB yet? any chance he gets any game burn this season? wearing my orange/green shades hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with him fixing our CB speed issue.
Thank you for reminding me, I forgot to include this in the original post.

I asked and received great feedback on Washington. He will be a player and help us at CB in the future.

OSU's currently ranked #1 with the #2 overall player in the nation at QB committed as well as two absolutely elite 5* CB's in their class. Their average ranking per committed recruit is 93.36 and they're comfortably over the golden 300-point threshold.

Carter looks like a really talented DT, but he's only the 15th highest-rated player in their class according to the 247 composite. Wouldn't drop their average.

Would love to flip Carter, though, regardless of any site's rankings.

For Washington, @DMoney has said on at least one podcast that the position change will be more of a 2025 issue.

You've actually misstated what he said. Nobody cares about cway enough to send him to Purgatory, and besides, that's not the purpose of Purgatory anyhow.

You need to pick a better horse to ride than cway.
Then what oath did he make?

Yes, Ohio State currently has the #1 class with 309 points. As I mentioned, we have 263, and currently ranked #12.

If you remove Carter from Taint's class, they literally don't even drop a full point. They still have 308 points, and remain #1.

Adding him to Miami's class only adds less than 2 points, but would jump us to #10 overall, as we are barely behind USC and Oklahoma right now.

As far as your Pickett question, he's certainly more of a needle mover with how highly he's ranked. They are currently #3 with 297 points, if he flips they drop to 290 points and would fall all the way down to 8th.

Miami adding him jumps us to 272.79. So, obviously a ton can and will change, and when you start moving heavy hitters like Pickett around, things change quickly.

Right now, LSU is #3 and Miami is #12. Dropping Pickett from their class and adding him to ours actually jumps us ahead of them, we would go to #7 and they'd be barely behind at #8. The elite 5-stars are kinda important in all this.

the recruiting board is good…. if UM can close well. Looks like they are tryna close out on the elite prospects. I wish UM had cast a bigger net to find a WR1, and get a couple more DL prospects.

Props to the staff for not just blindly paying the kids with the most lucrative NIL deals

Let’s see how patient he is in the offseason
I sometimes think that many of the posters on this board don’t listen to what Mario and others like DMoney say.

Mario has stated that he’s very happy with how Samson is coming along. Kid is a redshirt FR, and came from a state where the competition level was not very high. Mario has stated that his future is very bright, and DMoney has repeated this. Not every FR is going to be a star right away, specially on the OL or at DT. We have a lot of talent in both of those position groups.

It’s kinda bad luck how the year we have an elite offense, there’s no elite south Florida WR lol

Miami needs to flip TJ Alford as well

t’s a great sign if guys are redshirting every year that means the older guys are performing up to their standards for once. So many guys will benefit from it in their career. So many guys benefited from the Covid year and not burning a year.

The Bain, Jeremiah Smith types are the rare plug and play ofc

Why don't y'all go off to Purgatory, start a thread and just go at it?

Meanwhile, this is the bank.
