Scrimmage news from D$ (CanesInSight Live summary)

In an exclusive reveal, CanesInSight Live provided fans with an inside look at the recent scrimmage, courtesy of D$.

D$ had previously given a detailed, hour-long analysis of every position in the camp in last week’s podcast, and this episode was focused on the Friday’s scrimmage.
The health of the team was emphasized. Unlike the previous year, where injuries plagued the roster, the team has come through the camp relatively unscathed.

Quarterback discussions were extensive, with the deep ball skills of Tyler Van Dyke being especially highlighted. The precision and strength of his throws were commended, as was the continued battle between Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams for the backup quarterback position. D$ described Brown’s scrimmage performance as, “Better than last time, but not as good as you need.”

On Williams’ scrimmage performance, D$ said the following.

“Mr. Consistent with him. Very good command of the offense for a true freshman – he was here in spring, but he’s a true freshman. Very good accuracy, really good red zone passer. He has to work on the timing of his deep ball a little bit, but very accurate.”

The two of them were splitting second-team reps in the scrimmage.

The running back scene looks competitive, with notable mention of Don Chaney, Jr. as a player who had a strong performance on Friday morning.

Colbie Young and Tyler Harrell were two standouts at wide receiver, with Young hauling in a 99-yard touchdown from Van Dyke in situational work. Harrell also had a deep reception on the day.

When the conversation shifted to the defensive line, the versatility and depth of talent were evident. Several players, such as Leonard Taylor and Jafari Harvey, stood out in the scrimmages. Taylor in particular, with dominant play according to D$.

At linebacker, freshman Bobby Washington was a standout for D$ and has a real chance to be an impact player at Miami.

The cornerbacks, particularly the Brown Brothers and Daryl Porter Jr., garnered special attention. The competition and talent depth in these positions promise an exciting season for fans. Porter Jr had an interception on Friday and is making a major push to be a starter. Freshman Damari Brown’s physicality and willingness as a tackler have stood out as well.

Agreed better play-calling would make a world of difference, but let's not ignore what a stout OL can do. Not only would it open running lanes, but give TVD that time to make plays downfield. That's the one area I'm most excited to see if we truly are that much better than last year. Logic says it should be.

Well, appreciate the optimism & hopefully this is the year . . . but when Gore is highlighted as making plays and potential factor on DL - like, wow.

He is deep depth (3rd string) but he can cause problems in spurts. Did really well against UNC last year.

Would much rather be the '16 iteration that started 4-4 and finished 9-4. Not sure the schedule plays out that way given how backloaded it is.

I think both new Coordinators will have a positive effect and play should be much better. The difference will be the mental toughness and togetherness this team shows. Last year it was sorely lacking. It will probably make a huge difference in contested games like Texas A&M, NC, NCState and seeing that we don't lose games to teams we are more talented than. Probably the difference between 7 wins or a 9-10 win season.

All gunna come down to the A&M game

If we win, and stay healthy, we could start out 5-0 and build confidence going into UNC

If we lose I could see us slipping up against GT or someone else

I agree with this................let's face the REAL truth..........this season is riding on the back of TVD......healthy, rested, primed, and ready to go...............

We need to hope that he stays healthy because if not...........we do NOT want to consider.......our options or the alternative.
It would mean...who you got time?....and that scares the **** out of me...........being honest......

As far as the D goes.....if we play at a consistent advanced level of D through game 7.......then we would be real......and a 10-2, 9-3 or even an 8-4 year would be a **** of a lot better than 5-7.....

It is a "how you do anything, is how you do everything" year...............where has that gone?...

I'm not screaming 15-0 year two of the Cristobal era, but with this schedule and with a revamped roster, attitude and energy (as well as improved play at quarterback)—the ceiling should be 10-2 and the basement 8-4—so 9-3 feels realistic.

I agree with everything you said. I realize this is a 3-5 year rebuild just to start getting to the ACC title game but at the same time it doesn’t change the fact that last year just about ripped the care out of me for good.

I fly from TN to Miami for every home game and make most away games, it’s just my passion and a way of life. But I have never been more “oh yea I guess the season does start next week. Ah it doesn’t really matter we’re going to suck anyway” about a season in my entire life.

Mostly for reasons I posted in another thread but it’s difficult getting excited about a season when you see an easier path to 6-6 than 9-4.

So if they didnt say good things about TVD you'd say thats a bad sign...but because they are saying goid things about TVD that must mean they are lying and covering for him...so thats also a bad sign. Got it.
