The Canes secured their quarterback of the future with the signature of 4-star Luke Nickel. The Alpharetta, GA native led his Milton squad to an undefeated regular session while putting up 3,033 yards (66%), 36 TDs and 7 INTs.
Standing at a sturdy 6’2, 205, Nickel is an Elite 11 Finalist with clean fundamentals and high-level field vision. His brother and father were both college TEs and he brings functional athleticism to the position (13 career rushing TDs). As a junior, he led Milton to a 13-2 record and a Georgia AAAAAAA state title throwing for 3,914 yards, 39 TDs and 6 INTs.
Nickel’s greatest strength is his ability to process quickly and deliver the football. This has allowed him to be consistently productive in pads. As a passer, he combines very good accuracy and anticipation with enough arm strength to make the necessary throws. He is particularly good at bucket throws and has excellent timing on deep balls. His playing style compares to Sam Howell of UNC.
Nickel chose MIami over Kentucky and Auburn.
