I'm not writing this as an endorsement of Emory, nor an indictment thereof. Unless Mensah is way better than Emory, why bring him in? 3 years of eligibility left means he's the same age (eligibility wise) as Emory. IMO we need a one and done, two years left TOPS type. Otherwise, why are we recruiting HS QBs at all? It doesn't make sense. Again, I'm not Emory's dad or agent. He's a likeable kid with a mediocre arm who is likely smart. I'm not expecting another Cam Ward, but there's gotta be someone between Cam Ward and Emory/Mensah, no?

Also, Mensah only played one game against decent competition (Oklahoma) and had a lousy game. He compiled his stats against lesser competition.

Mensah played well against Kansas State, too.

Emory is a back, IMO. Average arm, labored release, slow feet.

I don't think you can go into the season with him as the starter.

If we can keep getting studs out of the portal for QB’s I’m fine not recruiting HS QB’s. It hasn’t really worked out for us in 20 years.

On the surface, I don't disagree. Thing is, I'm fairly certain that 5 star QBs bring a certain cache for recruiting WRs and I believe that's been a part of why we have a higher whiff rate on top end WRs.

I'm not disputing anything you said other than (slightly) the last line. If he's not capable of being the starter going in to year 3, why recruit him in the first place? I don't expect you to answer that and I also can already anticipate the "missed eval" and "no DUHvelopment" comments, but that isn't really what I'm asking. We all saw what he had (no diddy) athletically when he played a few games last year, so I assume the coaches saw it too.

I'm just a little crabby today cuz it's Monday and I think the Pop Tart Bowl sucks, so don't take anything I said personally.

There’s a reason Mario keeps recruiting over Emory, he simply isn’t good. He’s yet to look like a QB that can win at a high level. Everyone will point to Clemson and FSU, but they’re not being honest with themselves, he was bad in both of those games.

5 star qbs are not going to be unwilling to come to Miami because we portal recruit over mid-3 stars.

Dorsey 2.0 Hive about to be on your ***. Godspeed.

Interesting young man, but bringing him would send the wrong message to the current QB's on the roster and the 2026 Qb commit.

Go Canes

If he comes in Emory may transfer, but Nickel would be in a good position to sit and learn for a year or two if Mensah leaves early for the NFL. If he stays and Nickel can't beat him out, then sure Luke may transfer, but that's frequently how it works on most teams

Every QB recruit isn’t expected to be the guy. You need depth. Even programs that bring in 5-star guys also recruit 3-star guys. Maybe they hit and turn out to be Mac Jones in college.

I think the expectation was always to recruit over Emory.

Fair enough. The Jaden Rashada saga supports your claim.
