I believe you are confusing the "convincing" and the point of "making a decision".

The fact that Cam and his father changed their minds was heavily dependent on the pitch that Mario and Miami made. Without THAT, Cam and his father never change their minds.
I’m just going by what they said. They didn’t say anything about the pitch Mario made help them change their mind

Never said it was a bad pick up did I? Merely the fact this program used to be the likes of LSU/Georgia (just to reference the schools that you brought up) that would get this type of talent from the high school level
Georgia and LSU went to the portal to try to get this guy from Jax State, over their current players on their team that they recruited from HS

Those of you who love this kid, help me understand why. How is this kid from Jacksonville St such a guaranteed starter and not a bust like MOST of the DBs we've brought through the portal? Especially the ones from lesser schools. How can you all be so confident that his play will translate from G5 Jacksonville State to P4 ACC and beyond? I know we're all projecting here but what is it specifically you see on tape that means his skills will project fine to the P4 level?

This is a sincere question. Not rhetorical.

Just trying to bring some reality to the player before I pencil him in as a plug and play starter and get my hopes up again for nothing.

I think there is a difference between "he's better than what we currently have" and "he's going to win conference and/or national awards".

I think a guy with 4 years of production on tape...you can tell whether he can tackle, whether he can play his position, etc. Which is ALREADY better than what we have been fielding. On the other hand, could he "not quite be as good" against P4 than he was against G5? Sure, that's possible.

But we don't need an All-American. He's coming for a year. We need someone who can improve upon what we have recently been putting on the field. And this guy can do that.

In order to make a choice, you have to HAVE a choice. I realize they didn't say anything about the pitch Mario made. But the fact that they saw UM as the BETTER CHOICE (even after a long debate) is evidence that the pitch was solid.

I mean I think he had already decided if he stayed in college it was going to be Miami. So obviously he liked the situation. But let’s be real that draft grade it’s what probably helped that decision more than anything. If he would’ve had a 1st round grade I think he leaves

I’m sure they changed their mind based on nothing said from UMs side

If that was the case he wouldn’t have enter the draft in the first place and he would’ve committed on his visit or after. There is nothing that profound they could’ve said differently that they didn’t already say to him

Am I being punked here? Are you serious?

Yes. Y’all want to give someone credit or blame someone for everything. There were other people involved like cam and his family. That great pitch didn’t stop him from entering the draft. So if cam would’ve stayed in the draft would the pitch then not been good enough? Would it have been Mario fault he didn’t come?

Cam is the best QB to ever play here? How long you been a fan?

And Mario didn't exactly "land" Cam. We got a bit lucky that his NFL stock wasn't as high as he had hoped.
In my opinion yes he is, definitely the most talented. I'm 33 I didn't get to see those guys from the 80's play. You may think they were better & thats fine. & It doesnt matter he still had to choose a college after finding out his draft stock wasnt good enough. He didnt pick Miami out of a hat lol he couldve went elswhere but Mario & company convinced him Miami was the best place for him.

Your'e acting as if he just picked up the phone n called Miami out of the blue to come play here lol. They still recruited him n made a pitch good enough to convince him that Miami was the best place to be other then the league, he couldve easily went to a dif school after pulling out of the draft.

My point was that Mario didn’t convince him to pull out the draft as stated by Mario himself. Cam pulled out the draft because he didn’t like his grade. Yes I said obviously he liked the situation at Miami before he declared. But let’s not act like Mario jumped on the phone and told him something that changed his mind as this fan base likes to think. The pitch was simple a plain as day

That brain you supposedly has clearly doesn’t work. No point in continuing. Kick rocks sir

On second thought, you’re right. Mario did nothing to convince Cam to come to Miami. Cam and his family had their memory’s wiped and just decided out of the blue to flip from the draft to Miami.

Like I said that brain clearly doesn’t work or you just can’t read. It’s ok to move along sir

Your argument is flawed because you’re dying on this hill of “Mario didn’t call Cam after he declared” which is completely irrelevant unless you think him and his family were Men In Black’d after seeing aliens. Mario did not need to call again. The pitch was made. The family assessed the situation of draft vs Miami and, wait for it, due to Mario and Co’s pitch, decided based on the information from the draft, that enrolling at Miami was a better choice.

He still had to be recruited regardless of his draft stock so your point is kinda irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, He Ultimately chose Miami & not the NFL, Mario played a huge role in that.

And you can’t seem to comprehend where I have said he obviously liked the situation at Miami before he declared. But the fact is you aren’t getting is he still entered the draft after getting that pitch. And as I said his draft grade was what sealed the deal
