this feels like a disaster hire to me. all of Calipari’s assistants have flopped and recruiting for Duke has to be one of the easiest jobs in college basketball.

and in the off chance that you have hit on a superstar coach here, he’s leaving for a bigger job in 3 years. so i’m not sure what the upside even is here really.

L showed that you don’t need to have some major recruiting reputation to get 4 and 5 stars to come here. put good teams on the floor, put some guys into the draft, and use your connections as a coach and guys will want to play in Miami — and of course now we have the NIL aspect. the entire direction of this hire feels misplaced to me

happy to proven wrong of course. we will see

I know we're talking about Lucas here, but how do you like paid Grok compared to others (assuming you pay)?
I think it's pretty great value so far. I think if you are doing real in-depth research it likely is a must purchase now, especially given its definitely going to furiously improve over the next week or so. I think If you just do both Grok and Open AI subscriptions, you're looking good right now. I think right now it makes sense to have multiple, in the same way you'd have multiple assistants. Some will be more capable at certain things. And right Now I do think Grok is about as capable as anything, and for a good value. From some of what I've seen on twitter, the coding examples are pretty great. Thats where all this is heading where ai just makes it so coding is done in human language. It's physics appear to be great. And having the grok analysis built in so you can have it analyze tweets imo is a great feature.

Honestly the daily interaction I have with it right now is kinda easy stuff that you don't need grok specifically for, but I do think it has the most up-to-date information given it's twitter access. But for example, It's so much easier to just like us AI as your like daily log/tracker. This is something I think literally everyone can use asap to immediately get healthier. Like myfitnesspal calorie tracking, weight lifting apps, etc. This can be so much more capable and easier to use because it'll do the research for you. People can eat healthy and track calories, but doing that calorie tracking all the time and finding exact matches, and all that is a hassle and is what causes people to fail imo. Like the longest I ever went using that was like 8weeks before it just became too annoying and time consuming. I can use voice to tell it I ate x,y,z and it keeps track of my calories and protein and all that. It'll look up the nutitional info from websites and all that or just make best possible guesses and get pretty **** accurate. Now I also don't need to pay for a premium workout app, I can just have a basic one and share my log with it and just quickly tell it where I'm sore and all that or any injuries. I can tell it my sleep my health, and It can track all that easily and notice trends. We'll see but I imagine its going to be far better at showing me my progress and all that than any one specific app can
Also, For instance I don't have like IBS or something but my brother does and im trying to get him to use it to track his food and he can tell it about flare ups or whatever he has. I'm sure it can find the trend for what foods cause it and what not after a long-enough period of time.. And literally on twitter this costs like $84/year right now - and I'm already a heavy twitter user so it has other benefits as well.

Huge risk huge reward. Little surprised they didn’t go after anyone with some experience. I would’ve hired will wade but I can understand why they didn’t

A lot of our "Fans" d**kride Duke, so they are loving this. For us that actually care about the program, we know this is an admission that Rad and the powers that be don't give a **** about the program. Serious programs don't make this hire, especially knowing that there are legit options out there. This is a lottery ticket pick, it's Frank Haith all over again.

why? I would rather the basketball team be good than sit thru 3 more years of crappy teams so that I can come back here and tell a bunch of random people I told them so. I don’t care about you that much

I just think this archetype of hire — the dynamic recruiter getting his first job — is one that blows up spectacularly. people keep saying it’s “boom or bust” or “high upside high reward” but I’m not sure I see the upside. a first time coach is gonna turn Miami into a 5 star one and done factory? beyond just sounding far fetched in general, those teams don’t even typically do well in March

Exciting hire
Why? How many times has he reached the Tournament as a head coach?? Coach L took us to being a top tier team with years of experience proven record. A lot of risk, being a top recruiter at Duke is like being a top recruiter at Georgia or Alabama in football. Hopefully he proves out!!! Let go Canes!

Just an absolute terrible hire.

I suggest Cane hoops fans find a winter hobby

Again its why SEC will keep soaring above ACC in basketball. SEC hires proven good coaches while

Complete and total disaster until proven otherwise. This school has the money to hire a real brand name and there’s a couple out there. Fire Rad. Unnecessary risk bc this school doesn’t do **** seriously unless the candidate is a mediocre alumnus.
who are the brand names you refer to? did they tell you they would come to Miami and at what cost?

Anyone with a pulse can recruit people to Duke, Texas and Kentucky. Just keep that in mind. I know a lot of our "Fans" don't pay attention, but what Rad just did was hire Frank Haith again. Maybe it works out this time, but I doubt it.

Duke was Duke bc of coach K, just like bama with Saban. They don’t “recruit themselves” the same way as they did with those guys in charge.

He’s a Leonard Hamilton hire all over again as those old enough to remember Leonard was an elite recruiter for Kentucky in the 80s before going to Oklahoma State then Miami

Please educate me how this is even comparable to when we hired Haith.

For the record, I like the Jai Lucas hire.
He is the young, energetic recruiter with a defense philosophy the program needs.
I wonder who he hires that will lead the offense.
I like the hire and he has my support.
Even though there is some hype that the deal is not set, I think we could do much worse. Regarding an "experienced" HC... quite honestly NIL is a big big part of success and no HC has a real lot of grasp and experience in handling that newly ever-developing bugaboo.
