After being sidelined for over a year due to injury, Canes tight end Elijah Arroyo's presence on the field was sorely missed. In a recent media availability session, Arroyo opened up about his return to action.
"It was such a blessing, just being on the field," Arroyo exclaimed. "It's been a long time coming, and it just felt good to be back out there with my brothers."
His excitement was palpable, and it's clear that Arroyo cherished every moment on the field. His physical readiness was also a topic of discussion, and he reassured fans that he's ready for an increased workload.
"Yeah, I feel good," Arroyo stated confidently. "The coaching staff and the trainers did a good job making sure I'm 100% before I'm ready to go back out there on the playing field."
One of the standout features of Arroyo's interview was his selflessness when discussing the tight end position's role in the offense. Despite the tight ends' relatively lower production compared to receivers this season, Arroyo emphasized their willingness to do whatever it takes to win, whether that means blocking, working on the perimeter, or catching passes.
"Our tight end group is pretty selfless," Arroyo explained. "We'll do whatever it takes to win, whether they want us to block, be on the perimeter, or catch balls. We'll be ready to do whatever they ask of us."
Moving forward, the young tight end, now in his third year, reflected on how fast his college football journey has flown by. He had some advice for the younger players on the team: "Take advantage of it, because it's going to be like that. You're going to be in year three already."
In addition to discussing his football career, Arroyo also shed light on his relationship with former Miami Hurricanes tight end, Will Mallory, who is now playing with the Colts. Arroyo confirmed that he remains in close contact with Mallory, seeking advice and wisdom about life as a professional athlete.
"I'm always picking at his brain because he's at the next level now," Arroyo said. "I want to know what it's like and what I should do as far as being a professional. He's got me with any advice I need."
Mallory's guidance has been invaluable to Arroyo as he continues to develop on and off the field.
Lastly, Arroyo touched on the role his grandfather played in his decision to join the Miami Hurricanes. His grandfather's unwavering support for the team and his influence played a significant role in Arroyo's choice.
"He was part of the reason why I came down because, growing up, he was a big Canes fan," Arroyo recalled. "He used to take us to a lot of the games, and I remember, as a kid, wanting to leave early, but he'd say, 'After this drive.' But he's always been there for me, and he still comes to all the games."
