Familiarity with the HC and several former team mates at SMU may also have played a role.
Miamis DTs top 3 DTs are better than last years. That’s all that matters. JHH is an ok player. Clark and Barrow are upgrades. Scott is an upgrade in terms of talent. Our DTs were an issue. I wish our secondary added another corner and safety. That’s our weak spot this year. Front 7 is not. You have Moton, Barrow, Cook, Scott, and Blount can rush inside there also. I feel comfortable this year for a change.

I think the big benefit of Barrow is he’s steady. Sadly enough we haven’t had much of that at DT. LT seemed to be very inconsistent and most of our other guys just weren’t really good enough to make impacts.

I’m not as familiar with Clark but seems like people that saw him a lot say the same types of things

LT didn’t wanna be great. He still had nfl ability and I’ll be interested to see how he plays. My guess is he will be a monster for that second contract. But it’s all up to him. We have steady DTs us facts. That Justin Scott kid may be the DT we used to see yearly at Miami.

I’m optimistic by nature but this stuff with Barrow is strange. We need him to be in here and be a steadying force and a leader for a DT group that’s lacked both

Hopefully its just water under the bridge

I don’t want to be a hypocrite since I said with Mario this stuff doesn’t worry me…but this has been weird

Clark is very strong. Barrow will be motivated by the nfl money. Scott is the most talented DT we will have. He’s a freshman though. We have some depth with guys like Moton and I’m excited at the grouping.

Remember Horton as well. He will compete also.

Jones was my favorite player in the 2024 class. I think he’ll play
In todays portal Era you can’t stash and redshirt a lot of kids. Jones and Scott will play! Lightfoot is small but will play. Big time talents will play. It was great when you could redshirt kids and get them physically ready. Most will leave. Jones has that wrestling background with quick feet. Mario said he was over 300 pounds when he signed. He will absolutely play.

JHH is at SMU. Barrow had a bidding war between Miami and some SEC teams for his service. Barrow isn’t Warren Sapp but he’s a step up from what we had.
Yea it’s not even close.

Ok well let’s start with this then:

Here’s about 30 minutes of Michigan St defensive highlights of Barrow doing a whole lot of nothing

He gets some double teams but there’s plenty of single blocking where he gets pushed around

He makes a couple nice slips in here as well (I really like his ability to shed in Guidrys defense). I think he’s got some underrated athleticism the way he can move down the line and make plays.

I didn’t think stuff like this would need Lance level screenshots and descriptions of a guy just not making much of an impact on a game

Fine player and I’m over this whole thread. Hoping for the best from the dude and better than what I physically saw with my eyes last year

You know that michigan oline last year is light years ahead of anything he will face in the regular season and acc champ game this year with us

The entire point is the guy hasn’t been a difference maker the way a lot of our fans have hoped for. If you follow the thread people were literally hinging our run defense success on him coming here or not

It’s not realistic at all. Theres plenty more where this came from.

But it won’t matter that’s why I don’t bother. I’m not here to change minds.

He wasn’t my favorite player but he comes in grown-***-man strong so should be ready to go now. Plus he’s a multi sport athlete who played offense too. His athleticism is off the charts.

Pre camp, my assessment is, Jones : Mauigoa :: Scott : Samson.

Can’t wait for camp when we get to see if some of these guys belong right away

We had some lower ranked CBs IIRC. A guy like Mack maybe he can surprise some people. Looked great during the all star circuit

Anyway. Fun times ahead brother

I agree a lot of our run defense might hinge on what we get from Clark & Moten who are the biggest guys with experience under their belts. And Horton is another X factor, we've been hearing good things but gotta see it at some point to know what he's capable of.

LT just didn’t have the push he needed I guess. Love the kid for coming here but the school let him down but he also let himself down for not grinding the way he should have (Allegedly)
