For portal... CB, backup Safety, 2 DTs, 2 WRs, RB, and QB
Finding a qb will be hard with TVD unless it’s a younger guy that knows he’ll have a good shot at starting next year. Imo they’ll “ try “ for a Rb, Wr or 2, cb, dt and a s. I’d actually be ok with a lb and Ol if there’s any there. The second Ol group is scary af.

Or they expecting any early contributions from the second wave of o line guys are is it redshirting for next season and moving forward?

No matter how bad things got, he never looked like the moment was too big. Exceptional poise, toughness and resilience.

If he can complete 60% or better and protect the football, he will be a SUPERSTAR.
Yeah he was playing in a game probably about 2 years before he should have and he definitely needs a lot of work throwing the ball, but there’s no doubt he was a kid that sparked this team when we had none of that all season basically

Not sure how his future plays out but those are good signs imo he’s got some real talent

Teams in the ACC are mostly mediocre. So in any given year, many teams can end the year between 5-8 wins without being significantly differentiated talent-wise. Tell me one that CONSISTENTLY wins 9+ games other than Clemson? That's what we're looking for. Not depending on luck but on a roster that is one deviation or more above the competition. I contend that the current roster is slightly better than, but not a deviation above, most of our ACC opponents, which is why I am predicting 6-8 win season without more talent from the portal.
No right now it’s about building so a lucky 9 win season would be huge on the trail. The consistency will come later but right now we need to at least fake it until we make it

It’s laughable when people talk about us finding a starting ready P5 QB in the portal after spring practice.

No QB that is in the mindset to transfer (for obviously a chance to start) would want to come here with TVD. We’ll have a better chance to find a high quality QB in the portal after this season - not before.

Adding 5-6 guys in the portal will separate us being a 5-6 win team and 8-9 win team. Depth is scary and a few positions need a starter added. Imo we’ll bevery aggressive after spring.

Man. I know last year was traumatizing, but 5 wins?

I went back and looked at the 2020 roster and we are better than then overall right now, as is.

So you believe Pope, Wiggins, and Harley are better than Young, George, and X/Smith/Ray/Robby? Now TE is unproven but does not lack talent. OL is much better.

LB and safety are better. I can’t see us not being able to field corners that can at least play up to Ivey, Couch, and Blades level.

LT will be at least as good as Nesta. We should be able to find a portal guy at least as good as Ford.

Phillips and Roche were good pass rushers but these guys showed they can generate some pressure last year.

That 2020 squad was a 9 win team ( yeah I’m counting Arky State). If Mario can’t get us to 8 as is, that means he is worse than rookie Manny. I can’t accept that at all. Mario has to produce, even if we don’t pick up anyone new.

and that 2020 team was 8-1 going into the last game vs unc

That team had a QB in King (a transfer QB!) who won half the games single handedly, with some timely help from a TE in Jordan. We could easily have lost 6 games without those two.

p.s. Phillips and Roche were both transfers too

Sniffing portal for upgrades at nearly every position is the word I’ve gotten.

They’ll definitely take 5-7 more portal guys. You’ll see several defections after spring.

They want to add a soph/junior QB in the portal who can be the backup and allow Jacurri to redshirt. It’s a different preparation process for the backup, so you can’t just say “redshirt unless TVD gets hurt” because your training process is different is you’re staying game ready than a true redshirt plan.

They want to add a RB. A starting caliber player is what I’m told.

There will be a defensive back added. They’re hoping to add some size/physicality at CB.

The plan remains to add a NT type. They’d like to add a grad type with some age. They’re hoping to get a graybeard in the room because they’re so encouraged by Moten and think some age would be good to help Moten accelerate his growth.

Colbie has been solid. Restrepo hasn’t stood out, if I’m being honest. They like his work ethic, and how he takes it seriously. But he hasn’t been dynamic and they want him to make more plays.

This means they’re looking to add two WR’s. One that’s a Z-WR to start. They’d love to add some competition for the X. Ladson has been invisible. Young has to stay healthy.

Haven’t heard much else of note.

Thanks, Lance. CB, WR and DT are frightening.

If you had a chance to look at Judd Anderson’s film, I’m curious as to your thoughts. Seems like a very raw player to say the least.

I really hope that DB with size is capable of playing both safety positions too. I swear if Kam gets hurt or hit with targeting, we're screwed.

I’m not sure exactly what this means but if you’re saying we essentially had to hit reset and start year one all over again, that’s how it looks to me. We wasted a year… and a lot of good will with Gattis and that offense and then whatever we did on defense.

Agree with this. And yet I still feel Mario is the guy. Sometimes the right guy messes up. And let’s face it, last year’s roster turned out to be awful, Gattis or no Gattis. Not a just add water rebuild.

I get it. But Mario was also preoccupied with changing over two thirds of his coaching staff. Not an excuse just facts. We can criticize him rightfully for taking so long to back into Gattis and going for experience and star power in Steele and Strong. But most on here agree he needed to address that error above all else. The biggest consequence of that is the early talent in the portal all cleared out before the staff settled in. So here we are…

p.s. my own personal frustration with Mario was that he should have known he needed to make the changes he did by mid October, so wtf did it take so long to land new coordinators and coaches? On the other hand, I think the guys he got are quality hires.
Mario certainly has some flaws, time management appears to be his biggest one.

I don’t know that he’s the guy for certain. I think he’s the guy by long-term financial commitment given his contract. I think he’s the guy to upgrade the trenches. I need to see what we do on offense to feel better about them.

I’m not over last year. The roster sucked and yet Manny did better with it and Mario could have too but he chose the offense he wanted not what was intelligent and obvious to even the least technically sound of us on here.

Even in a rebuild, UM should never ever be savaged by MTSU. What a disaster. Mario is way too experienced and highly compensated to make errors like that. Come on.

Mario is like the salesman who has a $100 sale that he can wrap up in his store at 10 am on a Tuesday morning. But he wants to convince the customer that they should get the $105 version because he makes an extra $3 (net) on it so he spends 3 hours selling it to the guy who was happy with the $100 product. Meanwhile, $1,000 worth of sales have walked in and out of his store and went elsewhere because he was busy ******* around for $3 more in profit.

That’s what I see right now.
