I don’t want to bash the kid. I’m happy that he came here and overall happy that no matter what he will get a free education somewhere and depending on the location he will be productive at his new school.

That being said, I always felt like we overrated him. I felt he was overrated on 247. I remember when his film was circulating going into his senior year, I wasn’t impressed. I just didn’t see it but we had the mods saying that “whoever did his film, did a disservice to him” but it benefited UM. I didn’t agree. Now that he’s hitting the portal, some are blaming the staff. The staff isn’t absolved from everything, we still have slow linebackers that get exposed in coverage and any run to the outside, we still have DBs who lack awareness in coverage skills, and we still overly depend on the portal with talented 4 & 5 stars riding the bench. However, CJ isn’t on the staff. Most of our young backs or transfers produce when given the opportunity. Lyle, Fletcher and Ajay made plays. Unfortunately, CJ didn’t work out here.

Fletcher, Lyle and Martinez will have play in NFL. it's not like we dont have guys. Ajay would see field more if he learned how to block.

CJ may never be a RB. His best play is one on one vs a LB when he is motioned out wide or on a wheel. Doesn’t have the lateral movement to be elite at RB. Wonder if Helcat is any better.

Not sure if he ever contributes here but the difference between him and CJJ as far as feel for the position (pause) was instantly noticeable in the spring game

Kid definitely has a knack for playing RB even though he is tiny

Just because someone is fast and from Florida doesn’t mean he is a good running back or football player. I do think Johnson would be a terrific corner. If he goes to the right system maybe he can develop. We were loaded at running back.

If im him im tapping into ole miss , smu, but a spread system with spacing.

CJ doewnt have much wiggle and our offense system like u said just cant find ways in the run game to utilize guys like him and breshard consistently.

We ran the play he scored on by going in motion n likely didnt run it 2 more times the rest of the year
I’m starting to get concerned with these evals. I feel like we hit more when Alonzo was GM.

Phillip Dorsett is my comp! Fast AF, but lateral quickness or acceleration is nonexistent. Dorsett been in the league for almost 10 seasons!

Everyone says we should have created plays for him like we couldn’t put up points.
I said during spring I thought Weatley Humphrey looked better.
I wish him best. I just never got the hype.

I think of him as a faster, lighter, less productive Lorenzo Lingard. Crazy speed. But if you can’t find the hole, don’t have the hips, can’t run great route as, don’t have soft hands, and go down on first contact, it really doesn’t matter how fast you are.

Comparing Johnson to Brashard or Dorsett … come on now.

thats the thing the two SMU canes that did really go at SMU are JHH and Brashard and both made plays when here.

Another portal target possibly with the addition of Pringle. Maybe not this off season but next off season
