CB Xavier Lucas is transferring to Miami

Miami has completed the overhaul of its secondary by landing of one of the best young DBs in America, Xavier Lucas.

The 6'2, 200-pound Broward County native was the second-highest graded player on the Wisconsin defense as a true freshman. According to PFF, Lucas posted a 77.5 overall rating, a 75.2 coverage grade and a 76.8 tackling grade. He made 18 total tackles with 2 pass deflections and an INT.

Lucas instantly becomes one of the fastest corners in the ACC. In the spring of 2024, Lucas posted a personal best 10.49 in the 100M.

Lucas reunites with his former Deerfield Beach teammate, Freshman All-American OJ Frederique. Miami has added four additional blue-chip transfers in the secondary with Charles Brantley (Michigan State), Ethan O'Connor (Wazzu), Zechariah Poyser (Jacksonville St.) and Emmanuel Karnley (Arizona).

Lucas attempted to enter the Transfer Portal several weeks ago. Wisconsin refused to enter his name in the Portal within the time required by rule. Wisconsin claims Lucas signed a revenue-sharing agreement pursuant to the House antitrust settlement. However, the settlement has yet to be approved, and the NCAA has been unable to legally restrict player movement after a series of court defeats. Lucas's attorney Darren Heitner said Lucas has yet to receive a payment from Wisconsin.

When Wisconsin failed to comply with standard protocol, Lucas withdrew from Wisconsin and enrolled in Miami. The NCAA will seek no further action.

Wisconsin does not own Lucas's NIL rights for two years. Any future "revenue-sharing" agreements will be based upon things like TV rights money and merchandise sales. It is not some exclusive deal that can prevent Lucas from going out and signing a deal with, say, Bose.

More importantly, the revenue sharing deals (eventually) will be predicated up enrollment at that school (thus, your ability to share in the revenue of that school that you and your sport help to generate). Revenue-sharing deals cannot prevent a student from transferring.

Finally, I'm not sure why people think you can sign a contract for something that is not yet a legally allowable matter (revenue-sharing). I mean, if you want to get ahead of things, you can always draft the contract, and you can always put it in front of someone. But even if they sign it, they are going to need to ratify it again once the particular subject matter comes into legal existence. Which, at this current moment, "revenue sharing" is not yet a thing.

Thx for confirming that first thought of mine. Was going out and only saw the news sporadically. Read something about a signed revenue-share and was like "Wait, that's not a thing yet."

I think Wisconsin needs to take a very serious look into their legal representation. That was awful.

Makes you wonder how many kids at BIG10 institutions signed that agreement. Or was Wisconsin the only school to use it now…

Most of those contracts i'd bet were pre TITLE 9 annoucement too. If there were numbers involved Wisco's gonna be a world of hurt from a money standpoint

Welcome home, X. Lucas. LFG, Canes! The B1G made this contract because of what happened with OSU, Ewers and a Iowa player that escapes my mind at this moment. Might want to wait until things are passed into law before acting as if their binding. I expect Fickell to be fired by seasons end anyway. We shall see.
