If I remember correctly you wasn't crazy about him
His Junior year I thought he was an Elite talent, but very raw in terms of technique & had questionable speed for his frame. A lanky kid like him should've been faster. After his Senior season he looked like he didn't really improve in the areas he needed to.

I was happy when we first got his commitment because just from an optics standpoint it looked like a big time W for us in an area that we had struggled with for so long. But once he flipped to Colorado it was clear there was something off about him.

Merritt is a DB. I’d guess we will give him a look at corner, nickel, and safety and see what looks best. He’s pretty versatile.

Well it aint his build/frame.
maybe speed - not sure if he has any track times or camp 40s to go off of? Think he's played lot of Safety too.
... maybe did'n't go to enough camps? Idk if he has a Bama offer or not. I could see that playing a factor for star rating for players from Alabama...
Agree on all points.

My high school plays Parker this year. I’ll get a first hand look against him this year. Our all state linebacker also transferred there so it should be a good game this year

What school again?

Starting quarterback returns. He’s not the biggest kid but is a solid runner. His back up is a good athlete who plays basketball and will play receiver to get him on the field. Solid skill guys. The team lost 90% of production from 2 years ago and was in semifinals with a 2 point conversion away from beating Ryan Williams and Saraland who won the state championship. A lot of young players had play last year. Really solid team who hasn’t lost coaches in years so they know the systems. What you see is what you get grind you out in the run game and play sound defense. Thats how they get to the playoffs every year.

Yes true but are we giving up on him after one year ? Or is it the mental side that has you turned off ?
He's cancerous and hasn't done a **** thing... even at Colorado. Why would we not give up on him?

Mental & physical side.

His practice clips at Colorado were horrendous & show a player who spends exactly 0 hours watching film, or perfecting his craft.
Totally agree! Can he turn this around? Yes! But it never seems to go well when you mix lazy and talent

Because he was in Colorado for one year. Ut as I said the lazy stuff usually never ends up with a positive story
