Massive first get for Coach Lucas. Welcome to The U (and welcome home), Malik!

If we can close the duel with Udeh, this makes for an interesting frontcourt combo.

Really like his demeanor. Team guy, engaged and great passer. His hands, frame and lefty game around the basket remind me of Michael Beasley at Kansas State (obviously not as dominant).

The tricky thing will be roster construction. Indiana tried to play him and their rim-running C together, but ultimately split them up later in the year. His ideal running mate is someone who can protect the rim and shoot threes, but that’s hard to find.
IU undergrad/fan here. You and @Da Jumbo Mutombo are pretty much right on. Really good young man and teammate with some really good scoring skills in close and developing into a solid passer. Tough to build around in the modern game because he gets most of his scoring close to the basket but is not really a 5. Not a rim protector or plus rebounder. More of a traditional power forward. When you pair him with a 5, there are spacing issues that make running modern offense challenging.

IU had poor coaching, but it was definitely better late in the year when it was not playing Ballo and Reneau at the same time very often. All that said, IU's problem for several years has been its guard/wing play, so perhaps UM can unlock something with him by surrounding him with better perimeter players.
