5-star RB Lingard commits to Miami

Just eight days after signing day for the 2017 class, Miami nabbed one of their top targets for the 2018 cycle on Thursday afternoon. 247sports composite five-star running back Lorenzo Lingard announced his commitment to Miami on Twitter a day after visiting Coral Gables.

Lingard hails from Orange City, Florida and attends University High School. He is ranked as the #2 running back in the country and #15 player overall. The 6-1, 190-pound back also has aspirations of competing in the 2020 Olympics. He is the defending state 4A champion in 110M hurdles and looks to take the 300M hurdles crown this year too.

Miami coaches Mark Richt and Thomas Brown have prioritized Lingard from the start – the two visited his school back in mid-January. That same week, coaches from Alabama, Ohio State, UGA and FSU also stopped by for Lingard.

CanesInSight’s Erick Marrero reported yesterday that Lingard seemed to be favoring Miami and Clemson heading into his unofficial visit to UM on Wednesday.

Lingard gives the Hurricanes their 8th commitment of the 2018 class as Richt looks to rack up his finest class at the helm.

EE slots are no less limited than signing on NSD, whether or not you count towards the previous year's numbers is a question to be had but it doesn't prevent you from being an actual EE.

Although I believe you can only have 85 total players on scholarship per semester as well. Which means if you're at 85 scholarships in the fall, you can bring in 1 EE for every guy who either graduates or transfers before the spring semester.

USC had this issue several years ago when something happened and they miscounted the number of guys graduating in December against the overall scholarship reductions from sanctions, and then couldn't bring one of their commits in as an EE. They were on probation and were trying to stack as many EE's as possible to back count, because they could only have 15 per class. It ended up costing them a scholarship when they were already paper thin. Nobody realizes, but Kiffins last year there, they only had something like 58 scholarship players.

There's also a yearly limit of 25 (I think) so you have to take both numbers into account...can't go over 85 total or 25 for the year. Not sure of the numbers, but we should have something like 10 EE spots open as long as that wouldn't put us over the 85 cap. I think I read that Richt wasn't looking to bring in that many EEs this year.

Do you know how many EE slots are available this cycle?

11 EE's can count towards the 2017 class. I fully expect this staff to push for as many EE's as possible so they can load up in this class and fix a lot of the depth and overall talent issues.

Someone posted an InsideTheU article about the scholarship count. The 11 EE numbers is in the neighborhood since we took 24ish this year and were able to count 10 towards last year. Our bigger problem is that we are at 83 total scholarships with 12 seniors, so only have 15 total spots available. Yearby is going early, but we will need to cut a lot more dead weight to sign a 25+ person class. Not considering the 85 number, we could take upwards of 30+ guys if we get enough in for next spring.

no, 11 EE's cannot count towards the 2017 class. this is fake news

whoever you got this from is operating under the false assumption that all 10 EE's from the 2017 class counted against the 2016 class. That is not the case, as the 2016 class cannot exceed 25/year, which it would if all 10 2017 EE's were able to count towards it.

There will be attrition as well which will give us more room to add new guys and get closer to that 25 number.
