‘26 QB Dereon Coleman commits to Miami

Miami has its QB of the future. 2026 blue-chip QB Dereon Coleman of Jones High School (Orlando) announced that he will be a Cane.

The 6’1, 165 gunslinger is no stranger to competition, as he beat out Elite 11 senior QB Trever Jackson as a sophomore and outshining multiple highly-regarded quarterbacks at Miami’s recent camp.

Coleman completed 63% of his passes for 2,236 yards, 16 TDs and 6 INTs as a sophomore. He also added 4 TDs on the ground.

He is Miami’s third commitment of the ‘26 class, joining WR Malachi Toney and LB Jordan Campbell.

Dereon Coleman is as dangerous as they come to dual-threat quarterbacks

Seeing the Miami (FL) commitment up live and personal, a takeaway not too long into the contest was seeing the arm talent and elusiveness of Coleman. The 2026 prospect threw multiple touchdowns outside of the pocket and notched first downs with his legs. The Hurricanes are getting a very talented young man and Coleman showed why he’s one of the best dual-threats around.

Coleman ended the contest completing 23-of-38 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns. What a night for the future Hurricane.

Somewhat off topic. But we should cut a "little brother" / "minor league" agreement with an FCS school like FAMU where we subsidize his NIL and let him go start and get reps for a year or two. Someone with his skill set needs to keep slinging the ball to develop his timing. Kid is the goods, don't know if shelving helps though.

This is actually a good idea. Very common in pro soccer, they send youngsters out on “loan” to mid-level clubs so they can see the field.

I don’t really have an understanding of how that would work legally. But my gut says that if a kid agrees to terms with a collective -which is technically not affiliated with a school - you could pull it off.

Holy sh he’s better than I initially thought. He can’t stare and lure college coverages to the wrs though that’s my only issue. You could do that in HS cause they not fast enough. But that second throw where he scrambles a bit but doesn’t take off and still throws it sheeeesh. If he can do that at the next level we got one.
