NCAA wrote letter to judge to get Shapiro lighter sentence

and Tim Reynolds passes the ball to Bilas

How could Kenneth Wainstein, investigator NCAA hired to investigate NCAA, miss an NCAA letter on Shapiro's behalf? http://bit.ly/14vnE6Y

That's what happens when you investigate yourself. Hitler hired someone to investigate him, and it was determined that he liked Jews.

And when your investigation, from the outset, is limited to a narrow scope. The NCAA never said it was investigating its whole investigation of Miami--and it never did investigate all of it.

Someone needs to ask Robinson if he knew about this letter and if he purposefully omitted it from his report. The letter was sent two months before he published his report, but he didn't mention it. Letter was dated June 3, 2011. Report came out in August. He has some explaining to do. If he had that much connection with Shapiro, this should have been mentioned. If not, he did a terrible job "investigating" as an investigative journalist.

We knew about the terrible job already. Just ask Dequan Jones and his family.

LOL
Tim Reynolds @ByTimReynolds
NCAA responded to the AP story about Shapiro tonight, saying they were aware of letter but that he would never have been a consultant.

So then the NCAA Director if Enforcement--the guy heading up the Miami investigation--lied to the judge in his letter to help a criminal minimize his sentence?

Reynolds is doing good work here....the PR is excellent for us because it keeps it in the news and further consolidates public opinion against the NCAA. The worst thing that could have happened to them was to keep it in the news.

What I was most excited about was the hint that there was something else there....as he suggested this stuff and paying the Pig ***** were not even the reasons Najjar was fired. I wonder what else he can uncover.

Remember where the PR game goes everything else will follow.

I wonder if we will even make it to June. If there is more and more that comes out there will be an air of inevitability of a settlement even though it was rejected earlier by the Exec Cmte.

Someone needs to do to the NCAA what the NCAA did to Penn St.

That someone is Donna Shalala.

Someone in the media really needs to come at this from the perspective of the people Shapiro ripped off. These people lost everything at the hands of Shapiro and the NCAA is trying to reduce his sentence?

I honestly think this is just the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully, guys like Tim Reynolds keep digging and maybe more media types will come help dig. The NCAA needs to be finished.

I agree the NCAA does nothing but punch themselves in the balls and shovel ***** into their mouths, but how does this specific revelation help us more?

Dycane said it best...

"With the spotlight on, no way Enforcement can rely on anything Shapiro says without REAL independent corroboration. The NCAA -- long before it could evaluate and confirm Shapiro's veracity -- went to bat for him in federal court at his sentencing hearing. It follows that Nevin had all the motivation in the world to trump up allegations as quid pro quo for the NCAA's help in reducing his sentence."

I've been wondering what the backstory is on this Najjar. Just read his linkEdln. Was a cop for 20 years prior to the NCAA gig.

That explains A LOT.

Again, is it really hard to believe this clown Najjar had incentive to go after us?

USC and Miami were approached both with a "do whatever it takes to bring them down", and it JUST SO HAPPENS those two schools when going well not only make it impossible for the good ol boy schools to win, but it cuts off two of the top three recruiting areas in the country.

This is what I have felt all along. SOLID POST!!!!!! The only two schools that can stop the SEC run is Miami and USC and those schools will do whatever it takes to keep them down

this is the type of nonsense that will be posted on warchant and will make our fanbase look aloof from reality and only sparks more of their "LOL, Miami's about to get hammered" talk.

LOL... I think its time for NCAA and Emmert time to cut their losses.. and just say time served... and move on before anything - AND SOMETHING WILL - drop that makes them look even worse, if possible in this case.

Whomever the PR person for the NCAA is asleep on the job .. god ****.

Anyway I predict that they probably don't want to upstage their BB tourney - but I bet you after the tourney is over. you will hear about a settlement.

Why would you care what those trailerpark inbreds think about our opinions?
Perhaps one should spend less time over there.
Sorry, I never got that line of thinking.

Problem with all this is, most people see this as two separate things. The NCAA with Shapiro, and Shapiro giving benefits to Miami. They still think that Shapiro/Robinson were telling the truth and that all the allegations made in the original article are true. Until that changes, public perception won't. Shalala needs to come out with a statement calling Shapiro a liar. So far it's been more that Miami was caught and been punished, but now they need to go on the offensive and discredit him and that story directly. She needs to call Robinson out for his ****ty reporting too.

haven't ever been over there.

it's just simply quite delusional to think that the NCAA is after Miami and USC because they see them as the only teams capable of getting in the SEC's way.

c'mon son.

Texas can stop them too, but they are self imposing sanctions by keeping Mack Brown on as coach.

Pretty sure she already publicly called that cumbucket a liar. And the public perception, outside of fsu fans, is that we are getting screwed.

I do agree with you that people are failing to realize that we didnt do everything he said we did.

I live in Georgia and the perception is that he was telling the truth and that now Miami is just trying to use the NCAA ******** up to get out of it. I would love it if she went after Robinson though, or if Reynolds or Bilas would join in on attacking the original story. Shapiro used Robinson's greed for a story and the NCAA's greed for prosecution in the same way he used the investor's greed for money. He's good at what he does.

I'm speechless over this latest revelation. The hatred that I have for those ****suckers at the NCAA grows by leaps and bounds with each passing week. They were willing to do whatever it took to nail us, **** them.

I wonder how long it took Don Donna's team to dig up that letter and pass it along to the AP or whoever "broke" the story. Don Donna is digging like Agamemnon Busmalis right now.
