Scuttlebutt equals what exactly? Pete Thamel from ESPN has said the SEC will play defense if necessary ... and listed four ACC schools (UNC, UVA, FSU and Clemson) as being in the SEC's crosshairs. Sankey himself has stated publicly that he has his eyes open if a worthwhile expansion...

No hedging: SEC or BIG for FSU?

You're correct of course, but to be fair I assumed "South Florida" meant anything and everything past Daytona or Ocala til I was in my 20's.

I'll play, too. Zero chance either FSU or Clemson end up in the B1G. This "choice" is about far more than just TV contracts. The economics don't come close for either of those schools in choosing anything other than the SEC

Just for record's sake: You (known in these parts as RickD) are saying FSU will join the B1G?

Linked an article about it a couple pages back (here's another: carriage fees slowly fading away) but the significance has greatly declined with the onset of streaming -- and they won't be coming back, either. It's pretty much all about eyeballs at this point. We've been scuffling along for...

Why raise a red flag? When the time comes, UM can go from supporting Jim Phillips and the ACC to "doing what we need to do in the best interests of the University of Miami." Like Texas A&M and Missouri did. Like Oklahoma and Texas did. Like UCLA and USC did. Like UW and Oregon did. And so on

My bad ... I meant what's special about needing to beat FSU and UF in any sport - both on the field and in recruiting That's Job One for our coaches every year in all sports — and if they don't know it, then we need to have somebody else in that job. Mario's seat at UM will be 1,000 times more...

How is the B1G better financially for the Athletic Departments at FSU and Clemson? College Presidents dislike having to help fund sports just as AD's dislike being told who to hire by presidents who don't know jack about sports. How does it benefit (1) the SEC and how does it benefit (2) ESPN...

    1. I don't think ESPN and FOX make expansion decisions while Sankey (and his constituents) and Petitti (and his constituents) dutifully respond "Yes sir" ... The commissioners, with the collective backing of their presidents and AD's, ultimately make these choices. Do they jibe with what the TV...

Exactly. Get back to me when the Jags get kicked out of the NFL W's and L's are a zero-sum game. Not every school is going to be a contender (or ex-contender) in both revenue sports

No. I just think the "FSU+Clemson to the B1G" talk is posturing to help move along the process. When Gregg Sankey says this: “We’re attentive, we’re engaged in conversation. The great news for the Southeastern Conference is people call and say, 'Hey you’re doing something special.' They kind...

We don't know yet if ESPN covertly supports FSU's and Clemson's efforts to leave the ACC. We do know, however, that the suits in Bristol aren't throwing their considerable weight behind Jim Phillips and the ACC. ESPN not activating the 2027-36 media right extension (7-plus months to the...

FSU and Clemson aren't going anywhere but the SEC. Period. End of story. The$e are decision$ in 2024 made solely in the be$t of intere$t of the Athletic Program$ — and not by an egghead president with his own personal preference or message board monkeys eager to throw ***** at ESPN

U-Dub and Oregon were loyal to the Pac-1210 and ready to sign the new media deal ... until "suddenly" they weren't. What do you think Miami and the rest of Brett McMurphy's "Magnificent Seven" were doing in their clandestine meetings last year? FSU and Clemson AD's: "We're looking to take the...
