Will Haskell plays for Ironwood HS in Glendale, AZ. He had 1400 yards with 20 TDs and 4 INTs plus over 900 yards rushing with 14 TDs. He’s 6’4 200 pounds with a good arm and that arm will probably get way stronger as he adds strength. Extremely athletic but you see sometimes that after his first read he just pulls the ball down and runs. He footwork could be better but he plants/drives well and doesn’t throw off his backfoot. Solid decision maker but wasn’t the biggest fan of the throw after the 60 yarder where he got hit. He’s being recruited by Cutcliffe and Matt Campbell which is an awesome sign being that both have good history with QBs.

He's got some poor man's Vince Young type athletic ability.

My concern would be his release & overall throwing mechanics, needs to be cleaned up & refined.

But I'm a big fan of TX & AZ QB's, because of the offenses they play in they tend to hit the ground running in college.

It makes sense that Duke is recruiting him, he fits Cutcliffe's system perfectly. He's definitely a redshirt kid though, probably won't play his best ball until his Red Junior season.

Still threw a beautiful 60 yard ball with those mechanics though. I'm actually more optimistic than you are. I think he's more of a 2 year project.

He's more of a thrower than a passer. He's a one read and run or chuck & duck type QB. A lot of over the top area throws by him. Those type of throws don't require him to be accurate. Those mechanics will keep him from being an accurate intermediate route passer. He's a really good athlete for the QB position. He'd scare more DCs with his legs than with his arm. The big questions for this kid is can he refine his mechanics, learn to routinely make full-field reads and how quickly can he go through progressions before taking off and running.

I think you’re putting little too much emphasis on his field reading. Does it need to improve? Absolutely but he’s also going to a spread offense where reads are pretty simple. Overall that’s basically what he is. You’re not going to find that arm strength in a lot of guys though.

I like this kid. The things that he can't do well, at this point in his development, can be coached. The things that he can do well (high end athleticism, running ability, natural arm strength), can't be coached.

I see your point but nowadays DCs are taking away a QB's first option. And if they have enough talent on defense a good DC can take away the second option as well. I've watched a lot of physically talented QBs get exposed because of how long it takes them to go through their progressions. Is it something a good OC can coach? Yes, it absolutely is but an OC can only do so much.

That said, I believe we need to take two QBs this cycle so let's take a high upside kid and see if he develops.
