Xavier Lucas is a free man. Fickell is free to watch people ramrod his wife though.

Bat signal is up.
2027 WR from STA. Big timer. But.. 2027. By then Ohio State will be offering to name a new wing of the University after him and his own private island. Texas will offer him Corpus Christie. The entire city. Mario will have to pony up his first born to keep the commitment. Of course maybe offering a speedboat will work because that will probably be the only way to get to the stadium.

I honestly don't care one way or another.

Defensive -- and in particular, DB -- depth was terrible. Many of us raised that alarm throughout the off-season. Not enough was done to address it. We saw the results... no need to stress the point... it was what it was.

But, going forward, just fix it. Mario's taken some very good steps in that direction (Poyser, O'Connor, Brantley, maybe another soon). That's all that concerns me.

I know I was definitely not satisfied with Meesh, Savion Riley and Hill. That wasn't nearly enough "talent" to cover our holes, and then Riley transferred out and we didn't bring in another top guy. As an aside, I think that's why Mario stuck with Guidry through the bowl game, because he knows it's partially his fault for not getting better backfield talent.

Fortunately, Mario realizes the defense cost us an NC run. But I won't fully believe it unless he not only brings in Lucas, he also goes after another legit top Safety or Nickel. We need 2 more, not 1 more, to limit the falloff if we have an injury or if one or two of our transfers turns out to be a Hill-level talent.

In his presser he said we need 10 guys in the secondary who can play.

And we’re at what?

Sure thing: OJ, O’Connor, Brantley, Poyser, (Lucas if he’s here and eligible)
Probable: Patterson, Day
Skeptical: Brown, Karnley
Doubtful: Williams (to small for safety), Richard (injured), Mack (this year - better in the future)
Freshman in order of most likely to least to be relied on: Antoine, Ewald, Wallace, Fitzgerald

Comfortable that we have 6 that are serviceable. Likely somewhere between 7-8 with the first 2 categories and at least 1, maybe 2 from lower/freshman buckets. I think we need at least 1 more regardless of what happens with Lucas. Preferably a safety that can play nickel or vice versa

I'll be interested to see what Mack can bring in that nickel role. Seemed to be doing well behind the scenes before injury.

We're only at 5 right now IMO. But I believe Lucas + 1 more playoff-caliber DB would still be enough to get to 10, given we a lot of bench strength that could/must step up.

OJ
Patterson
O'Connor
Brantley
Poyser
Lucas
TBD

Brown
Richard
Karnley

Mack

I think spring ball will be important for our secondary. I think they have to be absolutely lights out to not bring in no one in the summer window assuming lucas comes.

To typically get that starter caliber depth, Guys have to be recruited in. Most starters arent transferring in to get beat out by zaquan, o Connor, etc.
