Xavier Lucas wants to be in the portal but Luke Fickell pays to watch men ramrod his wife

Whatever id show you, you’d just discount as not good all the while somehow rationalizing that our JAGs are somehow as good. We should 100% have a 2 deep that can start at the P4 level, and we don’t have that.
What team has a 2 deep of DBs that are starters? It’s going to be likely be young guys who haven’t did anything. We have likely starters oj, O’Connor, brantley. Then brown and karnley behind them. Then you have the young guys like antoine, Mack, ewald, fitzgerald. What starter level is coming here to be a backup potentially Like I said I agree at safety we need more but cb is pretty much set.

On a dark frozen highway, Arctic wind in my hair
Warm smell of provolone rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
A man promising NIL and playing time, I had to stop for the night
There he stood in the doorway, he had a recruiting pitch to sell
And I was thinkin' to myself, "This could be heaven or this could be ****"
Then he lit up a Acebeam and he showed me the way
There were voices in the athletic center, I thought I heard them say
"Welcome to the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
Such a frozen place (such a frozen place)
You’ll soon freeze your face
Plenty of playing time with the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
All the NIL you need (all the NIL you need)
You can find it here"
His schemes were twisted, his coaching made no sense, uh
He’s got a lot of talented kids that are riding the bench
How they waste on the sidelines, snow on their heads
Some scream to remember, some scream to forget
So I called up their Collective, "Will I get paid on time?"
He said, "Our budget is approximately $19.99"
And still, those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the tundra just to hear them say
“Welcome to the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
Such a frozen place (such a frozen place)
You’ll soon freeze your face
Plenty of playing time with the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Our NIL has gone dry”
Icicles on the ceiling, the whale blubber on ice
A teammate said, "We are all just prisoners here of Coach Fickell’s device"
And in the athletic center igloo, they gathered for the feast
They served us plates of cheese and lard and some unidentifiable Arctic beast
Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax, " said Coach Fickell, "We are programmed to receive
You can transfer any time you like, but you can never leave"
Uh… free time?

This is a good question.

I assume the NCAA could deem him ineligible to play under your scenario. But i would expect a court to grant an injunction allowing Lucas to play. Frankly, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already. I’ve never seen an organization become so impotent so quickly as the current NCAA.

Yes. Per what @FrancisSawyer is asking, the NCAA is still the final word on eligibility. Clearly, anyone can enroll at any university to which they are admitted, but things like academics and the Clearinghouse and the granting of a sports scholarship are areas where the NCAA works (fairly quietly) behind the scenes prior to a student-athlete being deemed "eligible".

And you may know from your nephew what he had to do as a transfer, as far as transcripts, etc. that had to be submitted to both the NCAA (eligibility) and UM (admission). Not saying this is common, but in theory a kid could be flunking out at School #1 and might be ACADEMICALLY ineligible to play at School #2 in the determination of the NCAA.

So the whole "just show up and enroll" sounds great, but is much more complicated when it comes to the NCAA ruling a kid "eligible" to practice and play sports.

All that you wrote just to admit at the end the the player maybe didn’t do a number of things he needed to do to fulfill he’s end of the bargain, even after he received some compensation. Thereby, one could say, he also “DID NOT DO THE RIGHT THING”

Which was the whole ******* point in my comment.

Let me put it in a way even an attorney can understand

You hire me to fix your roof.
We sign a contract, and you give me a deposit.
[Let’s use the single nil contact you have seen as an example (Rashada’s)] - this contract has some clause that’s says, if I leave Florida i can get out of the deal.

Now, let’s say I leave Florida purely to get out of the deal. Not cause my mom died. Not cause I had some other unforeseen event or mitigating circumstance, but purely because I don’t want to be in Florida anymore working on your roof. I change my mind.

Legally, fine I’m covered. You are correct (maybe) from a contract standpoint.

But was it the “right thing to do”. Please answer honestly?

Again, you have invented facts that are not even established.

Nobody gave Xavier Lucas a deposit. And if the NIL Contract calls for repayment of any past money provided, he can repay.

But NONE of those issues impact his right to transfer. Which is absolute, and superior to any terms in the NIL deal.

So stop making up bull**** fact patterns like "hey, I paid a deposit" which are not relevant.

Xavier Lucas absolutely did the right thing. He decided he wanted to transfer, which cuts off his NIL agreement. It does. Unless you are trying to argue that an NIL agreement is a form of slavery, that can restrict one's right to move or transfer.

No harm was done. No deposit was paid. There is no magical "do the right thing" requirement to do anything more or less than what is permitted and/or required by the contract. End of story.

These student-athletes can transfer whenever they want. They can quit the team. They can quit school. All of those things will end an NIL agreement.

No deposit, no return.

you continue to only think in terms of contract, when I specifically excluded that point.

Take deposit out of my hypothetical (even though it was reported he had received funds) and answer if it’s right.

Actually don’t, I couldn’t give a **** what you think . Have a great rest of your weekend

Well for one another CB could easily beat out Karnley or Damari. The second point is how are we only talking CBs right now. We still have a slot open at safety, Damari may very well move over there as well. I just don’t understand how you think we are set here especially after what we just lived through, but you are entitled to your opinion.

In terms of your question in this post, every team we are aspiring to be has 10 good DBs, notice we are saying DBs not just CBs. And you are correct that will consist of sometime of young unproven talent but my stance with us is this… if you couldn’t get on the field this year for Miami, im not holding my breath and once again, the one guy I really like at DB that we just got is Slime and he suffered a knee injury during the season.

Nooo...stop lying. You didn't "specifally exclude that point", it was literally your ONLY point.

You're the one who continues to insert "contract" into an administrative rule that says a university SHALL submit a player's name in the Portal database within 48 hours. There are no exceptions. Please show us where the "but he signed a contract" exception is to the requirement for Wisconsin to submit his name into the Portal database within 48 hours.

You're the one who freaked the **** out because I said Wisconsin should "do the right thing" in relation to its REQUIREMENT to put Lucas's name into the Portal database within 48 hours.

You're the one who got into his feelings about "why don't you expect someone to 'do the right thing' on a contract matter", which, as I have pointed out, has no bearing on the school's requirement to put someone's name into the Portal database within 48 hours.

I've seen losers like you before, I know you're going to try to get in the last word. So I'm going to let you, I'm done with your bull**** overreactions because you ****ed yourself over my "biased language".

The NIL contract is irrelevant here. Has no meaning. Carry on with your mindless "paid a deposit" hyoptheticals.

"WAAAAAH, WAAAAAH, you said 'do the right thing' and I got mad"...get on with your worthless life.

I didn’t get mad, you clearly got upset when instead of just ignoring my observation that it seems only a school is obligated to do “what’s right” and never the play, you told me to go **** myself

That’s an emotional reaction from an insecure dude who’s pappy didn’t teach him right 😂😂

Keep responding I got nothing else going on today

lol I just said several times I agree we need more at safety. I just don’t see a starter level cb transferring here to compete for the 4th or 5th spot

I was dismissing them as non factors until proven otherwise. I don’t think it’s smart to go into the season relying on them. If they surprise, great but won’t count on it.
So just portal over everyone ? Do we know Scott, Blount, jones, lightfoot, pickett, Rudolph are any good? Can't count on them. Let's just portal over them so next year when they still have no experience, we can portal over them again. It's time some of these guys contribute.

I’d say our DL situation is a bit difference than the disaster we just had at DB no?

Agreed. With the exception of a verifiably elite DL that wants to come here in the Spring, we are set there and need to roll with them. Now, MLB, is another story...

Well I missed that then. I said from the jump we need another DB and never specified CB. Lucas gives us flexibility and in some way Damari would as well. I believe you take the best player available and if that is a CB, you take the CB. Brantley even though he is great, has a serious history of injuries.

I do wonder why it’s always the University that’s has to “do the right thing”, and never the player.

If the player signed a NIL agreement, it’s his commitment to the school. The “right” thing is also for the players to honor his word and the contract, especially If that agreement had some upfront monies paid, as has been reported.

This is not an attack on your comment, just an observation.

In any other industry, field, or sports league - once that contract is signed you don’t typically just get to change your mind.
The university is not the nil. They are independent. Are you insinuating that if someone wants out of a contract for whatever reason that they have to do what the contract said? Like you pay a contractor to build your house and he says nope not going to do it and takes the money, then the court comes in and rules he must build the house? Think about that. It’s insane. You can’t force any action like that. You can only make them pay you back and any damages. So the only course of action here is he is forced to pay them back any attempt to do anything else is insane. It’s also likely illegal. People can have a million valid reasons to get out of a contract. The reasons don’t matter.

He does and that’s why you have to coach up the guys you have. I understand your concern because of last year but it should be much better this year even if somebody gets hurt

I’m concerned that we didn’t recruit at the desired level there. Thankfully OJ was a hit. Given the continued weakness of the ACC and the fact that we actually have some top tier talent particularly at DT, which is hard to come by for anybody but especially Miami(check the last 20 years there) I think if we get the right pieces in the portal we can compete again.

It’s year 4, I don’t care about set up years, that time has come and gone. We need to win now. We just saved the season by getting our QB. I don’t think Beck is elite but he is good enough to win the ACC with if you have a balanced team. Let’s load up in the portal and do this **** is my stance.
