WR Marquez Ezzard update

The guys around here forget Edge ran a 4.9 in HS. Ezzard is not a burner but 4.7's at that size in HS is fast. Just wait until he starts getting in the college weight room and gets some of the man strength like you do from 18 to 20. He could end up a 4.5 guy easy.

Wrs who play like he does always gives cbs problems because he isn't just physical but knows how to play physical without being called for penalties. Sure he may not be the fastest but if he knows how to be consistent especially on this team he can easily be productive

As an FYI, that 4.79 40-yd was electronically timed, outdoors on field turf, at 70 degrees. There was nothing on The Opening's website regarding wind conditions, but only 1 person ran sub-4.5 (a 4.48 was the best time) that day. Mallory was also there and ran a 4.68, though Mallory actually weighed in 6 lbs. lighter than Ezzard despite measuring in 3 inches taller. Joshua Vann, a very solid 4* who is generally considered the best WR recruit in the state and weighed 177 at the Opening, ran a 4.69 (he only rated about 6 Nike points better overall and Ezzard had a better 20-yd shuttle time). If you watch Vann's highlights, he's running by a lot of guys on vertical routes.

Based on all of that, it may have just been a slow track day for whatever reason. If you had Ezzard run indoors on hard turf or a track (like they do at the NFL Combine), I wouldn't be surprised if he ran in the low to mid 4.6 range. Still not "fast," but more than adequate "track speed" for a p5 WR.

What???... best is 13s?....So my 12 year old daughter is faster than this dude? She has only been running outdoor track for 2 years and ran the 13s on the regular this past season.

Boldin was an electronic 4.8 and Landry was electronic 4.7. He plays a similar style.

If he also has the hands that Boldin and Landry have then I'm in.

I keep hearing Ezzard being compared to big WRs who have had great success. How big is Ezzard legit?

He looks like a good player, but the competition is doodoo. Ray Lewis III looked like Barry Sanders in his highlights. Like I said, he looks good, but some of you guys are acting like there is zero to debate on him.

It’s not the best competition but it defintiely ain’t the worst in Georgia. He plays in 5A which still has a ton of good schools. Georgia has a lot of schools in lower classifications that have tons of d1 prospects in 3A,4A or what have you. Take national power house Buford for an example they have multiple d1 athletes every year but were a 3A school. All I’m going to say it’s a lot of ballers in this area of Georgia period

I don't doubt that there are some good prospects in that classification. I'm just going off this particular reel, and a lot of the highlights he hung were against gimps.

I thought his Jr. Clips were **** good, but lacked another gear...Looks like he gained a step to me. I really like him as a WR prospect, definite take.

TBH only reason I like him despite his speed, which almost makes him not Miami quality, is his strength. Unlike Cager who is just big but lacks any strength, I think he's a guy that will get dirty. And despite being slow enough to get taken off the board entirely, I think we could really use that aspect of his game.

Still would rather have some other Florida WRs over him, but whatever

We have 3 currently... Please dont be that fan that believes that Fla only produces NFL talent...

We like that fade route and jump ball route to our WRs in the endzone which might be this kids meal ticket to be money for us

Schwartz is trash i don’t think he got 300 yard receiving this year in a year where he was the highest rated player on that side of the ball. 0 production as the fastest dude in high school

Yea but the Gator haven't even visited him since the Mullen hire. UiF is either not interested in keeping him or slow playing him. At this point, Baylor is the only place recruiting him, the place he de-committed when he started getting attention.

I don't see "it" in his highlights. I see a slower Dayall Harris with better hands. He's going to be a year 2 or 3 guy IMO, not an immediate plug-in short yardage threat.

One thing some must consider with that 13.02 was in ONE meet (Back in 2016) and we do not know under what conditions he ran (ie: injury, rain, poor start, pulled up in race, etc.).

2) He ran in only 2 meets that season hardly a baseline to determine speed. One race was for a 100m and one for a 200m

3) He ran the 200m in 23.79 which equates to a 100m of 11.78. Not blazing but again far faster than his 13.02--100m--and he ran the 200m earlier in the season than the 100m. People do not slow that much unless there is a problem.

You made some very good points.
I went back to look at that Nike he participated in March 26, 2017 in Atlanta. It was about the same time as those track meets he was in.

i picked out some people from that same Nike who also ran HS track. One was a tad faster and one was a tad slower. Here are their Nike times from that March combine and their track times as a comparison to Ezzard.
